Plussize
Fashion Week Africa is back, this time it promises to be bigger, better
and more exciting. Following the success of the maiden edition of the
fashion show dedicated to celebrating the plus sized African woman, the
planning towards the second edition is in full gear.
This
year’s edition is set to hold on Saturday, November 3, 2018,
and
Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Main Banquet Hall, Oriental Hotel,
Victoria Island, Lagos. The activities this year has already begun with the search for Africa’s Next Plus-size Model (ANPM), where the participants will grace the stage at the PFWAFRICA and the winner will get international modelling exposure.
This year’s modelling competition will only be open to the models under the Golden Curvy modelling agency as it is the number 1 plussize modelling agency in Nigeria, and this guarantees that the models will be well trained by the best and of a high standard. We will also ensure that this year's participants have parental consent to travel and model if they do win.
There would be exhibitions running for the two days where designers and retailers will display their wares for the hundreds of people that will attend from all over the world. Emerging and established designers will also be bringing their A—game to the PFWAFRICA runway to showcase their creativity and diversity.
On the Finale day, we will be launching and having the maiden edition of our Masterclass called “Glow up and Flawless”. This year masterclass will see plus-sized ladies being taught about mental well-being, body positivity and self-confidence. The finale day will close with The Fashion Gala Night which is set to be an exclusive event where awards will be given to those who have contributed immensely in Plussize industry in Africa.
This year’s Plussize Fashion Week Africa is themed #BeautifullyMe and it as all about self-awareness.
ABOUT PFWAFRICA
African
culture is one that has historically celebrated the healthy looking
plus-sized woman. She is the everyday woman, in the office, the shop,
the marketplace, and on the streets. Contemporary fashion trends in the
global West have exhibited an exponential tendency to alienate the
plus-sized woman, to the point of stigmatizing her body size. The
cross-cultural exchange between these two locales has led to a
significant rise of "size zero" models on the African runway. This fact
tends to question the integrity of conventional African Fashion runways,
with ‘zero’ sized models walking for audiences, 85% of whom are plus
sized! This has created a noticeable divide between the audience and the
fashion show.
To Bridge this gap, and put the real needs of the average African woman on the runway, the Plussize Fashion Week™ was born, thus bringing an African Fashion Feel to an African Audience. The Plussize Fashion Week™ is poised to celebrate the African Woman’s Body, whilst not excluding models and apparels of a variety of shapes and sizes.
Opening in Lagos for the second edition, this is the only fashion runway show ever dedicated to Plussize designers, models and apparels. In support of Nigerian Tourism and business hub opportunities, the event is open to a host of local, international and diaspora designers and models who are willing to be part of the event. Last year we also extended our links to welcome UK based and US-based designers for this event, which proved an enriching experience of cultural diversity, reflective of our ever globalising world.

bible says that we are faithfully and wonderfully made, this means that
God has made us beautiful. So, #beautifullyme is how God has made me and
I am striving to be the best version of who I am”.
The
Plussize Fashion Week Africa was birthed out of the need to stop the
stigmatization and body shaming of the plus-sized woman, we believe that
every woman should be comfortable in her skin and body regardless of
what the society thinks as long as they are healthy.
