Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate for the 2019 election, Abubakar Atiku, will address a meeting of leaders in Washington and New York from December 14 to17, 2018.
It will be a historic moment in Atiku's political career, a stunning turnaround for a man once banned from entering the US.
Atiku was severally denied a visa to enter the US on moral grounds, stemming from allegations that he tacitly supported graft in the US involving a former Congressman.
Atiku will hold discussions with think-tank, academics and NGO experts on Nigeria; a meeting with officials at the US Department of State, and an off-the record meeting with some US agencies.
Atiku and his team will share their perspectives on upcoming elections and lay out their strategies for enforcing good conduct among candidates, promoting issue-based, ensuring a tone of moderation in the debates, and encouraging respect for the election outcome.
The State Department has ended a 10-year diplomatic boycott imposed on the politician, said a top official in Washington.
Director General, Atiku campaign organisation, Gbenga Daniel, has said the American Embassy has been calling on Atiku to come forward so he could be issued a visa.
