One watches with rapt attention, the growth of Nigeria’s entertainment industry; an increasing crop of outstanding musicians, dancers, actors, comedians, producers, directors, sports men and women.

A word of caution, however. Artistes and sportsmen must
plan for what could be an uncertain future by diversifying earning streams, investing and protecting today’s earnings for tomorrow. Do not be complacent. Learn from past examples and protect your future to avoid the road from riches to rags
You are your greatest asset. Be proactive about investing in yourself constantly both personally and professionally.
We live in a world that is in a constant state of flux. This presents both opportunities and challenges. Learn, grow, adapt; keep up with the latest techniques and what is new in the industry, as you pick up skills in other areas.
If you don't make an effort to keep abreast of the industry you could quickly become outdated. Whether you are a dance instructor, choreographer, danceteacher, or entrepreneur, don't limit yourself.
The opportunities with the internet and social media are immense; you can share your work and promote it globally building a huge following at home and abroad.
2. EDUCATION
Becoming a professional singer, actor, dancer, comedian doesn't necessarily require formal education or an academic degree. Educational background is not directly correlated to knowledge or the application of your craft or success.
Your reputation, experience, knowledge and quality of your work speak volumes. It is tempting to ride on early success and drop out of school. Talent gets you only so far.
You don’t have to have a degree to be successful. Finish school; you need basic written, numeric and communication skills; critical life skills that help you along a more sustainable path.
CERTIFICATION Whilst experience is important, formal instruction broadens your knowledge base and exposes you to new ideas and approaches.
Certification boosts confidence; gives a sense of accomplishment and achievement, keeps you current, and is a stamp of excellence. Knowledge is power. Certification can boost earnings. I was able to charge more for piano lessons armed with a Piano Teaching Diploma ARCM, an internationally recognised qualification now available at Muson School of Music. @musonng
No apologies;
I am a proud Naija Mom.
Hear me out. Education matters.
It lasts well beyond the dizzy heights of success! Image:
