As part of his administration’s standard policy on industrialisation,
Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has approved the establishment
of a new Industrial Zone around the 9th Mile Corner in Ngwo.
The new industrial area is expected to accommodate the teeming
population of the Enugu motor spare parts dealers who are currently
doing business at the Industrial area in Coal Camp, Enugu.
The state government’s position was
disclosed by the state
Commissioner for Information, Ogbuagu Anikwe, in a statement over the
weekend.
According to him, the relocation of motor spare parts dealers was
based on a request by the Enugu Motor Spare Parts Dealers Association
(EMSPDA).
“The dealers had specifically requested for a new location around the
9th Mile area which will enhance their ability to expand their business
and create room for
indigenous technology and innovation.
indigenous technology and innovation.
“They said they’re presently confronted with enormous problems and
challenges such as space constraints, limited access by their clients,
lack of room for expansion, and dilapidated and ageing infrastructure.
“The State Executive Council then voted to create an Industrial Zone
around the 9th Mile area, acquire land for the area, and relocate the
Coal Camp spare parts dealers to the new zone.
“This led to the setting up of a high-level cabinet committee to work
out the modalities for the realisation of the project,” the
commissioner said.
Anakwe said the committee members included the state Commissioners for Commerce and Industry; Lands and Urban Development; Enugu Capital
Territory Development; Works and Infrastructure; as well as the Chairmen
of Udi; and Ezeagu Local Government areas of the state; and
representatives of EMSPDA.
