The Nigeria Police in a reformed actives, and one of the first major reforms carried out by the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, shortly after he assumed office was the express approval and immediate reversal of the name of the Police Complaint Unit from the "Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU)" now known as to its founding name called– "Complaint Response Unit (CRU)".
The decision was taken as a
result of the recommendation made by the pioneer Head of the Unit, ACP Abayomi Shogunle, following feedback from the public and stakeholders working with the unit on police accountability in Nigeria.
Beyond the name nomenclature, the Nigeria Police Force has re-positioned the personnel in the unit and prepared them for the new realities of the day.

Complaint Response Unit (CRU) is an internal police oversight unit, established in November 2015.
The unit is run as a community-oriented complaint management system
through which citizens’ complaint against police officers are addressed
in real time.
With its motto ‘No To Impunity,’ the unit is well prepared to discharge
its responsibilities and ensure quick response with the aim of putting
smiles on people’s faces.
