20-year-old man fell under a moving carnival float near the western German city of Koblenz late on Saturday afternoon and suffered fatal injuries, police said.
The incident occurred at 5 pm (1600 GMT) in the town of St Goarshausen, police said. The man died from his injuries in hospital.
Police said that it was initially unclear how the man fell under the float. An investigation was underway.
In a separate incident in the nearby state of Hesse, two men fell from a carnival float and were seriously injured.
The men, aged 50 and 31, fell from the float as it was travelling from the village of Dauborn to that of Kirberg, about 3 kilometres away, on Saturday afternoon, police said in a statement.
The two men were believed to have fallen from the float's superstructure from a great height, pulling parts of it with them.
A 56-year-old woman was slightly injured by falling parts.
The two seriously injured men were taken to hospital.
