NCAA- No Basis for Airspace Closure over Labour Dispute

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has denied allegations that the country is closing its airspace to flight operations with effect from Sunday midnight.

Denying the allegation, the Acting General Manager, Public Affairs, NCAA, Mr. Sam Adurogboye, said the issue NCAA had with its workers’ union is being resolved with a peace meeting slated for today, adding that there was no basis for airspace closure.

Agitation in NCAA over recall of retired worker

The calm in the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, may have been ruptured as a personnel (names withheld) who retired after completing her 35 years in the service has reportedly been brought back to the system as a contract staff without due process.

 

The staff, who was said to have spent extra two years and three months after her retirement was due, retired only two months ago and was immediately engaged as a contract staff.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), on Sunday, disclaimed reports stating that 100 persons were interviewed and employed by the Authority in Abuja without ministerial approval.

 

Muhtar Usman, director-general, NCAA, in his reaction, said he sought and obtained ministerial approval for renewal of contracts for 45 Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASI) whose contracts had expired, contrary to the claims by the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), that instead of the Authority paying outstanding salaries of those workers who were recalled by the Ministry of Aviation, it went ahead to employ more 100 personnel.
