Real success is not merely a matter of getting what you want. After all, a newborn infant with a loud cry can accomplish that. Real success comes from fully being who you are. Real success comes from giving your own unique value to life. The less you need, the more fulfilled and powerful and effective you are. As your peacefulness increases, so does your energy level. Choose not to let the small things anger you, or annoy you, or distract you. And keep in mind that most things are small things...:You cannot ever fully control everything that happens, and in fact you would not want to do so. Enjoy true success by learning how to take whatever happens, and to make it work for the good of all concerned. You attract what you are willing to accept. And you are willing to accept that with which you are the most familiar. You are the most familiar with the things upon which you focus the energy of your thoughts. So where are you directing those thoughts in this moment?

Are your thoughts filled with worry about what you do not want? Then you'll soon grow to accept those undesirable things as inevitable, and attract them into your life. Instead, fill your thoughts with eager anticipation for the good and desirable things you know are possible. That will open you to accept those blessings, and they will then flow into your life. With your thoughts, become intimately familiar with the exact details of the life you wish to lead. And those details will surely assemble themselves into the meaningful life you seek.

Any task can become effortless when you let go of all your resistance to it. Creativity and effectiveness come easily and naturally when there is nothing blocking them. Do you resent the things you will be doing today? Then not only will you be miserable all day, you will end up with very little to show for your efforts. Choose instead to eagerly and enthusiastically embrace each task, each activity, and each situation. Fully accept whatever you are doing, and you will give it great value. Make your efforts effortless by letting them happen and letting them be. Let life freely flow, and you will go anywhere you desire.

This is the most important day in your life. Because this is the day that you are now living. If your life is headed in an undesirable direction, this is the day you can change it. If there are dreams you are longing to fulfill, this is the day you can follow them. This day, right now, is the day when you can put to use all the knowledge, experience and wisdom you've accumulated. On this very day, you can do the things you've been meaning to do and connect with the people you've been meaning to see.Of all the days you've ever lived, and of all the days to come, this is the one special day that now matters the most. For it is on this very day that you can now think and speak and act and love and live.

Anything that annoys you gives you the opportunity to build patience. Anything that interrupts or delays your plans gives you the opportunity to strengthen your level of acceptance. Challenges provide you with the chance to learn new skills. Disappointments can help you open yourself to new, more valuable options. Many of life's best treasures do not seem to be treasures at all when they first arrive. They gain their value as you accept them and find ways to make positive use of them.

Whatever may come your way, it is an opportunity to live more fully. Know that there's value in every twist and turn, and you'll surely tap into that value. In your mind you can go anywhere. And where your mind consistently goes, the rest of your life will follow. There is no limit to what you can imagine. And what you imagine, you have already begun to create. Allow your thoughts to travel often to beautiful and magnificent places. In your mind, construct all the rich details of the life you wish to live. Set your imagination free, and it will show you who you are. Let imagination guide your efforts, and your dreams will be fulfilled.

ROLAND –GARROS 2009 Female Tennis-Ana Ivanovic

(CNN) --
In the final game of Female Tennis-Ana Ivanovic
Defending champion Ana Ivanovic continued her improved form on the French clay by beating Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic 6-0 6-2 to reach the last 16.
Ana Ivanovic entered Roland Garros with little match play and without the tremendous confidence level that brought her to the crown last year, but after a clinical 6-0 6-2 destruction of Czech Iveta Benesova in the third round, the Serbian served notice that she's not going away quietly.
“I have been working a lot,” she said. “Obviously I need also match confidence. I felt very good in my practices, but never had chance to play many matches in a row. Now I allow myself to make some mistakes and work myself into a tournament. I did that really well, so I'm really happy.”
Playing perhaps her most impressive match of the year, Ivanovic did everything that her new coach, Craig Kardon, has been asking her to do: dictating early, making better use of her forehand and closing as quickly as possible at the net.
The left-handed Benasova tried to string out Ivanovic from the baseline but it was of no use, as the Serbian adeptly moved her serve around, effectively attacked the Czech's second serves and kept her nose in front of almost every point.
Since she won her maiden Grand Slam title last year at Roland Garros, Ivanovic has often been plagued by indecisiveness, but that wasn't the case on Friday, as she executed her game plan precisely.

In the final game, she grabbed a match point with a gorgeous crosscourt backhand drop shot and the won the contest with a forehand winner.

“I feel physically fit and ready to handle any kind of opponent, said Ivanovic, who cracked 20 winners to only three from her opponent. “Obviously these kinds of matches help you for the tough matches over the second week. I think there are no easy matches anymore, and you have to work hard. I feel my game is coming back, and I feel more confident and more comfortable on the court. I just feel content about my fitness level as well.”
The eighth seed will face either No. 9 Victoria Azarenka or Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro. She has never played either on the pro level.

“[Suarez] is a tough opponent on the clay,” Ivanovic said. “She brings a lot of balls back. Azarenka's playing really well and she's an aggressive player. She really commits for her shots and she likes to dominate. So if I can have the first shot, it's going to be crucial.”

Seven-time grand slam champion Venus Williams crashed out of the French Open on Friday as she was thrashed 6-0 6-4 by Agnes Szavay of Hungary. It was the third straight year that Williams has gone out at the same stage on the clay of Roland Garros, but defeat to 29th seed was still unexpected.

Third seed Williams had charted a perilous course to the last 32, saving a match point on Thursday against Lucie Safarova, but her luck ran out against Szavay. The Hungarian took the first set in 30 minutes without dropping a game, but Williams hit back in typical fashion to move a break ahead in the second set.

But a double fault allowed Szavay to level at 4-4 and after holding her own service she broke the Wimbledon champion again to seal the biggest win of her career. She will next take on Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia for a place in the quarterfinals.Earlier, Cibulkova defeated Gisela Dulko of Argentina 6-4 6-2.
http://www.rolandgarros.com/.

Five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams may be known for her high-octane offence, but it was her steely defence that pulled her through in a remarkable 6-7(2) 6-2 7-5 victory over Czech Lucie Safarova on Thursday.

Down 4-5 in the final set of a match that had been suspended for darkness the previous evening, Williams fought off a match point with a clean backhand winner down the line and from there, put up a wall from the baseline. While Williams can rip the ball off both wings and owns the world’s hardest women’s serve, Safarova matched her firepower inside the baseline, frequently wrong-footing her with forehand blasts and stepping gamely into her two-handed backhand.Despite her advancing age compared with many on the WTA circuit and her relative dislike of clay, Williams is still a fleet mover and ran sideline-to-sideline chasing down her foe’s blasts until she finally found an opening.

She broke the lefty Czech to lead 6-5 with another edition of her money shot, a backhand down the line, and then coolly held on by playing consistent tennis to take the contest when a Safarova backhand hit the let cord and fell backward.Williams, a 2002 Roland Garros finalist, is not one of the hot favourites here but cannot be counted out of a maiden title run. While the third seed has not won a Slam off grass since 2001 when she went own her second consecutive US Open, she is a smart, experienced player who would love to add the Roland Garros title to her resume. She will face talented Hungarian Agnes Szavay in the next round.None of the other top seeds was pushed, with No5 Jelena Jankovic beating Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia 6-1 6-2,No7 Svetlana Kuznetsova overcoming Galina Voskoboeva 6-0 6-2 and No10 Caroline Wozniacki besting American Jill Craybas 6-1 6-4.Spain’s Lourdes Dominguez Lino took out American Fed Cup heroine Alexa Glatch 7-6(0) 7-5, leaving only the Williams sisters left flying the US flag in the women’s draw. North American neighbour Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada however is through to the third round, cruising past Petra Martic of Croatia 6-3 6-3.

Williams has never won the French Open, her best performance a defeat in the 2002 final to sister Serena.

RED CARPET FAB: 2009 GENEVIEVE PINK BALL

Pink Ball 2009 Best Dressed
By Ijeoma Ndekwu

While everyone who attended the Genevieve Pink Ball put their best foot forward, some decided to put out two feet! So here you have it, the Best Dressed of the Night.
With these individuals, it was about giving a new definition to the word perfection; every detail was taking into account and that’s why they shine so brightly. It is the fit, the boldness of their choices and the successful execution of the entire look from top to bottom by: addition, subtraction and balance that puts them on our list. I rest my case, now you be the incorruptible judge!
From left: Ebuka, Sonia Irabor, Aramide Abe, Ngozi Nkwoji

Ebuka is the epitome of sophistication in this suit. Tailored to perfection, I love that he went for a dark grey suit rather than a black one, as it complements the fuchsia very well. Sonia goes in the right direction with this short piece. It has youthful exuberance written all over it, and the pearls give it the classy touch needed. Aramide and Ngozi’s combine their pink dresses with gold accessories, I love the empire waist line, the sleeves of their dresses, and how they complement their look with chandelier earrings.
From left: Elohor Isihor, Lanre DaSilva Ajayi, Femi Atilade, Stephanie Okereke
This group of ladies serve up a variety. Elohor draws on some ethnic influence with the Indian sari. A very risky choice indeed, but she has to be applauded for her execution. Lanre DaSilva expresses her love for vintage, with her knee length lace dress, which is such an elegant piece. The colour divide makes it all the more enchanting. We see two more contemporary pieces worn by Femi and Stephanie. Femi’s mini peplum dress is well complimented with her accessories, and as for Stephanie, her simplicity makes quite a loud roar. Less is definitely more!
From left: Ifeoma Williams and others
Here we see two ladies who choose to play by the book and two others who go for a twist! Ifeoma’s floor length print dress is nothing short of divine and so is the knee length ruched dress. Ifeoma’s dress gives her an enviable elongated silhouette and the other lady, shows off her to die-for curves in her ruched dress with a tasteful deep plunging neckline. Black and green are statement colours, especially in a room full of pink roses! These ladies stand out for their colour choice and beautiful dresses. Both dresses are cinched at the waist; the asymmetric black one with a brooch at the end, and the green dress with an adorable slim pink sash across her waist. The frill detail on the bodice makes the dress quite alluring.

From left: Hauwa Mukan, Doyin Abiola and others
It is the battle of the sleeves and necklines with these ladies. Hauwa goes for texture and drama, with a black net dress and dramatic frill sleeves, Doyin goes for a sleeveless floral floor length dress and the other two ladies opt for a one-shouldered sleeve and a sweet heart neckline respectively. What I love about this group of ladies is that they make great fabric choices and colour combinations. They all don’t stick to pink, they mix it up! Their pieces make a statement so do their accessories!

From left: Bola balogun, Betty Irabor, Isio Wanogho
Going all black in a textured tuxedo blazer and pants is hard to pull off successfully in a Pink ball, where trousers are dedicated to the men, and a splash of the girly pink plays a part, But Bola, shows us how that can be done! Bold, Dramatic, are adjectives that can be used to describe her look. Texture equally makes this look with the shimmering black vest and the blazer along with having her hair in a nice short do. Betty Irabor looks like the belle of the ball; sweet, girly and elegant, showing off her well toned arms in her sleeveless dress! This lady stands glamorous in gold and pink with a sexy peek-a-boo dress. Isio’s heavy embellishments sit well on the soft pink fabric. She keeps the focus on the dress with a bare neckline and her hair nicely pulled the back.

From left: Onari Duke, Michelle Dede in Tiffany Amber, Lillian Unachukwu, Dorothy Atake

Onari Duke and Michelle Dede go for floor length dresses. While Michelle chooses to show off her arms, Onari goes for a sheer short sleeve. Onari’s piece is conservative, but that doesn’t seem to take anything away from it! The embellished sleeves and empire waist line, give her the desired dazzle to be on our best dressed list. With Michelle, although her dress is in soft florals, it has such a personality, with the little bits of delicate details; she is able to adequately capture the essence of her Tiffany Amber creation. Lillian and Dorothy both wear fitted dresses, which they both sizzle in! The cut, the fit is all in place, and they don’t overdo the number with elaborate accessorizing; they strike the perfect balance.

From left: Genevieve, Bukki Wright, Mary Ali-Baba
Genevieve’s number is a selective and daring piece. A big personality is required to pull this
dress off. Can a personality get any bigger than Genevieve? While that creates room for an argument, it can’t be denied that she worked this dress seemingly effortlessly! With a high cut slit, she definitely puts the va in va-va-voom! Bukki is a glowing princess in her bubble hem dress, her accessories, and the sash on her waist add to her looks appeal. Mary Ali-Baba is stunning is this dress! The embroidered details and the fit of the dress make her breathtaking! Our final stunner sparkles in her pleated dress with silver and turquoise embellishments.

Kenya Coach Would Be Satisfied With Draw Against Nigeria

The Harambee Stars need a point against the Super Eagles to keep their World Cup dreams alive...by Peter Pedroncelli

As Kenya's Harambee Stars go head to head with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, a draw in Abuya will awaken their dreams of playing in next year’s African Cup of Nations and possibly the World Cup in South Africa. After retreating from the controversy of commitment letters with local league clubs for their players in the national squad, coach Antoine Hey has now set a draw against Nigeria on June 7 as the Stars’ target in the qualifying campaign.According to The Standard newspaper, the 38-year-old German said he is looking for a point against the Eagles and three against Mozambique’s Black Mambas who will pay the Stars a visit on June 20."It is behind us now (commitment letters row).
There is a lot of confidence in camp and everybody is looking forward to the match.," he explained."If we cannot get the four points to revive our World Cup hopes then we have to settle for an Africa Cup of Nations place otherwise the focus is to play for the World Cup," said Hey.He further said that Harambee strength lies in being a team, which he claimed their opponents lack. Hey has called a number of foreign based players to join the local lads in the Stars camp. They include McDonald Mariga (Parma), Patrick Oboya (Siad Most), Willies Ochieng (Finland), Robert Mambo (GIF Sundsvall, Sweden) and John ‘Mo’ Muiruri (FK Moss, Norway), Dennis Oliech (AJ Auxerre), Musa Otieno (Santos SA), and Antony Origi among others.

The Stars got a boost in the preparation when the humbled a mid table league club, Gor Mahia 1-0 in a friendly played yesterday at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani. The only goal was scored by defender Pascal Ochieng in the fifth minute.

The national side's improvement shook off their lackluster showing last week when they fell 2-0 to another lowly ranked league club.In yesterday’s friendly, Musa Otieno marshalled the defence alongside George Owino, Pascal Ochieng and John Njoroge. While Mike Baraza and Boniface Ambani were upfront with Osborn Monday, Peter Opiyo, Julius Owino and Victor Mugabe straddled in the midfield

D’Banj, 9ice, Agwu, others to grace Ali Baba’s farewell shows

Ali Baba the comedian
D’Banj, 9ice, Agwu, others to grace Ali Baba’s farewell shows holds’
Date:- June 12 and June 13, 2009
Venue: Oceanview Restaurant in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Numerous fans seem to loathe the drab, humourless days ahead without his witty anecdotes and rib-cracking jokes.
But, just as he promised, the Delta State-born doyen of Nigerian comedy is still determined to give his fans and admirers something to remember him for. Life & Beat observed that expectations are quite high, especially on the part of seasoned laughaholics who have stuck with the comedian since the beginning of his career.

Also the content of the valedictory event, which was scheduled to hold between June 12 and June 13, 2009 at the Oceanview Restaurant in Victoria Island, Lagos, has been expanded a little to accommodate additional appearances by both established and upcoming comedians.
Ali Baba clearly looks forward to the event with as much glee as his fans who expect him to put up an astounding valedictory performance that will, in a way, signify the end of an era and the beginning of a new one in the comedy industry.

Already, somebody has christened the forthcoming event, ‘mother of all shows‘ because of the rare line-up of heavyweights in the stand-up comedy scene. The list of artistes billed to perform alongside Ali Baba include Julius Agwu, Okey Bakassi, Basket Mouth, Gbenga Adeyinka I, Yibo Koko, as well as Kokomaster D‘Banj and 2009 Hip hop Awards multiple winner, 9ice.

Ever since he announced his retirement after twenty years as a stand-up comedian, Ali Baba‘s

Nollywood Babylon

Nigeria’s movie industry is winning global attention, but DVD piracy may bring it down
Producer Paul Julius is confident that the tens of thousands of dollars he has spent producing the soap opera “Tomorrow’s Tears” will be recouped, no matter the electricity shortages, lack of investors or grease-palmed government officials hampering his shooting schedule.Fighting to be heard over a steady stream of traffic and actors complaining about the lack of food, money and air conditioning, Mr. Julius explained the plot of his soap, which he hopes to sell to local TV stations. “I changed the subject from the normal stuff: blood, magic, stepmothers, etc.,” he said. “This is going to be about real-life issues.”

Mr. Julius is an up-and-coming player in Nigeria’s film and television industry, known as Nollywood, which has grown from its infancy in the 1980s into the one of the world’s biggest movie industries, but is facing some real-life issues of its own.In 2006, nearly 900 movies, almost all straight-to-video, were shot in Nigeria, trailing only India and almost doubling Hollywood’s total for the same year, according to a Unesco report released this month. Currently around 40 movies are shot every month in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, not counting the dozens of television dramas that are also shot here.

The industry generates an estimated $250 million a year, and is popular throughout Africa and immigrant enclaves in Europe and the U.S. But rampant piracy means substantial losses for producers and directors already operating on tight budgets. Understaffed and bribe-ready police means copyright enforcement is minimal. Inadequate roadways inhibit a small distribution network itching to grow. Constant electricity outages stall production schedules. These problems threaten to derail the industry. Nigeria’s messy and often corrupt oil industry drives much of what happens in this country. It is the biggest oil producer in Africa, and as much as 95% of the country’s export earnings come from oil. Nigeria has taken in roughly $400 billion in oil-generated revenue since 1970 but the standard of living for most Nigerians has actually decreased.

Paul Julius
Nonetheless, the country’s residents have an impressive appetite for movies. The most successful Nollywood movies are often melodramas like “Living in Bondage” and “Domitilla,” filled with adultery, bribery and elements of local mysticism.
A comedy, however, may have given Nollywood its best chance at international exposure. “Usuofia in London,” about a Nigerian man who lands in the big city straight from his native village, may be the best-selling Nollywood movie to date, with an estimated 500,000 copies sold. Only a handful of Nigerian movies have made it to international film festivals, such as “The Rivals,” directed by Aquila Njamah, which was shown at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival in 2007.

Most Nigerian movies are produced fast and cheap, shot in a few weeks for $15,000 to $25,000, then roughly edited and handed off to marketers and eventually street-side vendors, or video clubs, as they are known locally. Financiers, usually friends or family members of the producer or director, want to see their investments recouped and care little for artistic exploration or high-quality technical effects.

Directors are under pressure to keep each movie on schedule and under budget. Profits, when made, are small. Producers estimate that as much as 70% of their yearly revenue is lost to piracy. “I would say the biggest challenge facing the industry at the moment is lack of structure, and a high level of informality,” said Emeka Mba, the chairman of the National Film and Video Censors Board, the Nigerian movie industry’s main regulatory body.
There is no formal distribution network for Nollywood producers. A finished movie in Lagos is burned onto around 15,000 DVDs with no copy protection and released into the market. If it’s a hit, demand swells. Vendors need more copies. But the producers often can’t keep up. So the movie is copied by pirates and thrown back into the market. The producer can only hope he made back his investment in time.

“We’ve been crying to the government. If these things are not checked now, Nollywood will go into extinction,” said Cosmas Ndulue, 42, a producer and owner of one of only two indigenous DVD manufacturing companies in Nigeria.
Industry officials and government agencies have started paying closer attention to piracy, but so far there hasn’t been much of an effect. A recent police raid on a well-known DVD-copying operation resulted in a brief confrontation between police and piracy-ring leaders. The pirates stood their ground and burned a police truck, then went back to work making knock-off Nollywood copies. The only repercussion for the offenders? A bill for the damage to the police vehicle.

As piracy takes a larger and larger chunk of the profits, finding enough money to shoot a movie is becoming even more of a challenge. Chico Ejiro, a producer and director, has been struggling to find financing for his movies. A few years ago, during the shooting of his movie “Sisters on the Run,” he sold his car to keep the production afloat. This year he convinced a local bank to sponsor “100 Days in the Jungle,” a film about abduction and village lore, but it was a flop and Mr. Ejiro says the bank quickly soured on Nollywood.

Mr. Julius, despite his production headaches, is optimistic about the future of Nollywood, as are most industry players. While watching two of his actors struggle to finish a scene on a busy Lagos street, Mr. Julius was looking forward to a complicated shoot that would involve a substantial police convoy, hundreds of extras, and foreign actors.
“I need someone to play the British prime minister in the big scene we’re shooting this weekend,” Mr. Julius said, eyeing a reporter up and down. “Am I looking at him?”

Stephanie Okereke Hououred with African Goodwill Awards in US. Los Angeles

Stephanie Okereke clinches African Goodwill Awards in Los Angeles
Award honoured from the African Jewel Award at the 6th annual African Goodwill Awards, May, 2009 in US. Okereke received the plaque for her positive representation of African women through her inspiring works and evolving movie career.

The flag of Nollywood, arguably the pride of Africa and darling of Nigerian movie buffs, was further hoisted higher recently when leading actress Stephanie Okereke was honoured with the African Jewel Award at the 6th annual African Goodwill Awards, US. Okereke received the plaque for her positive representation of African women through her inspiring works and evolving movie career. Celebrities including the legendary singer Chaka Khan, actor Isaiah Washington, comedian and actress M’onique, iconic soloist Hope Foye, apostle Frederick Price and Dr. Deborah Hyde, all attended the colourful event.

It would be recalled that delectable Okereke came into the Nollywood scene in 1997 as a student of the University of Calabar. After graduating, her thirst for an acting career propelled her into Nollywood fulltime. She made her mark with the movie Emotional Crack, which premiered at the African Film festival in April 2004. With over 90 films to her name, Okereke is continually building her brand in the movie industry. A recent graduate of the New York Film Academy, she has also expanded her title to include that of a director, producer and a writer with the introduction of her latest movie: Through the Glass. It premiered at the Silver Screen Theatre of the Pacific Design Centre on October 18,2008, in Hollywood, California amid glitz and razzmatazz. Constantly setting her eyes on Hollywood and the global film stage, Okereke is truly a Nollywood heroine. The African Goodwill Awards ceremony celebrates the greatest quality of mankind and the inherent human spirit of giving. The event showcases the challenges and accomplishments of these men and women whose commitment in great measure have given hope to the poor in Africa, the Caribbean and American inner cities. The event also celebrates achievements in community service. Okereke’s international recognition is only the beginning of her goals for her brand, her passions and her country. Hollywood actress, Stephanie Okereke landed her first acting roles in the 1997 movies Compromise and Waterloo. Over the years, the Imo State-born actress has grown to become one of Nigeria’s foremost actresses, having featured in over a hundred movies. She got her big break in 2003 in the movie Emotional Crack, which earned her two awards (out of eight nominations) at the Reel Awards for the Best Actress, English and Actress of The Year. The following year, Emotional Crack premiered at the African Film Festival in the United States.

This opened the door to many opportunities for the actress. As a result, Hollywood came calling in 2005 and the beautiful actress auditioned for a role in The Good Shepherd which featured Robert DeNiro, but an unfortunate car accident on her way to the AMAA awards in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State hindered her chances of appearing in the film. Ups & DownsThe actress, who is also a model, was the second runner-up in the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria contest in 2002, which was won by Chineye Akinlade nee Ochuba.

Despite the fame, the English and Literary Studies graduate of the University of Calabar has had her own fair share of problems and scandals. In 2007, the leggy actress called it quits with her husband of two years, Chikelue Iloenyosi, a former player with the Nigerian National football team, who nursed her after her 2005 accident. Okereke was able to bounce back after the incident and she landed a role in the MNET sponsored series, Snitch, shot in South Africa in 2006. She played a Nigerian undercover agent in the series.

Taking Control
Having trained at the New York Film Academy, the talented actress cut her teeth as a director, scriptwriter and producer last year with the movie Through the Glass. The movie, shot in the US, featured a Nigerian and American cast. During the movie premiere last year, it was a double celebration for the Nollywood star as she also received an Award of Recognition from the California Legislature Assembly and launched her clothing line "The SO Collection."
With several awards in her kitty, Stephanie Okereke is one actress, who is set to leave a lasting impression on Nollywood and beyond.

Waiting for Paradise as re-defined by the masked one "LAGBAJA "

Interview By Akeem Lasisi
Published: Wednesday, 20 May 2009

As Lagbaja is set to break his silence with two new albums, he embraces culture but disowns hip hop

Once you see a pregnant Fulani woman, you can be sure that the child she will produce is going to be light in complexion. Rather than pausing to take any reservation from some scientist on this proverbial philosophy, one can simply link it to the music of the unrepentantly masked man, Lagbaja. Based on the profile he has built in the past 15 years or so, you can be sure that even if any album that comes from his stable lacks any other element, its entertaining quality will be intact. This, again, is one of the major factors that define the two new albums he is about to release simultaneously.

In Sobolation and Bling, two of the songs that are already being promoted, for instance, Lagbaja treats social subjects of gossiping and artificial life style in a satirical and light manner that promises to keep even those guilty of the syndromes laughing and dancing.

Far from being idle, talking drums, horns and the guitar give the songs a filling experience, while the back-up singers banter in slang in the kind of call-and-response that also define most of his earlier works.Incidentally, although Lagbaja is vey excited that he is dancing back into the market again, after a hiatus that has worried a good number of his fans, he appears to have been so much scared by pirates that he is keeping the title of one of the albums to his chest. He gives one as Paradise, however.

His words, "LAGBJA”I am proud to say that to the glory of God, we are coming with two albums. I don‘t know about many people who have been able to do that - Don‘t say I am blowing my own trumpet o. But the truth is that the last time we had two albums together was 2000. This time around again, we have two, and we are very happy about it. But the only one whose name I will tell you is Paradise, because it has a message very dear to my heart.

God created this country and made it for us like Paradise. We are the ones that cause all the wahala on ground.”From a distance, the title, Paradise, could make one think that the Egungun musician himself may have gone the gospel way. Perhaps, Lagbaja has ‘met Christ‘ and become ‘born again‘ as the clichés go. But he says his album is far larger than such a religious genre. He notes that he has done gospel numbers when occasions demanded such, but ”Lagbaja is not a gospel artiste the way you or other people are defining it,” he adds. ”

I play music - secular music. That is my calling. I could play in any style. But, as I said, this is not to say that one genre is good or bad. As a matter of fact, some of the most powerful music is church music. It is probably church music that many of us grew up with. Yes, we could hear, Gbadi-gban-gbadi, gbadi gbangbadi on the road, but we also grew up with Christian music tradition. So, for me, there is no conflict at all.”As usual, in Paradise, there are also songs that are yeye songs. For me, what we call some yeye songs do not mean they are meaningless. They just mean songs created for fun; as in saying, ‘Let‘s enjoy ourselves.‘ In Paradise, there is alujo and everything danceable. There are songs in English, pidgin etc.”

Lagbaja is still tidying up the marketing and distribution end of Paradise. For one, the pirates that are ever lurking in the market are preventing his sleep from being restful. Piracy had, indeed, scared Lagbaja so much that he had found it difficult to release Africano Party Two, which has been on the card for some years. But he says plans are now on to release it probably before the end of the year, even though he has had to remix it to eliminate some areas he considers outdated. He says piracy, in Nigeria, is tough, entrenched and institutionalised - with some marketers insisting that unless an artiste sells at a particular price, they will either not touch the work or even get it pirated.
Lagbaja acknowledges the influence of afro beat in his music, but insists he does not play afro beat. ”But Fela is a big influence on me,” he adds. ”In my music, you get juju with my talking drum; hear afro beat and other influences.

Will you call Skenkele afro beat? Will you call Faraway afro beat?”
While noting that, contrary to speculations, he and Femi Kuti are in good terms, he adds that afro is still doing well internationally. This is evident in the fact that a good number of musicians now play afro in the US and beyond. The reason it is not very popular in Nigeria is that it is complex.

”So also is Africano. If you are playing computer programming music, it is a different ball game. In a place people can read music, scrore and analyse music, they will like to play afro or africano. But the noise that we hear in Nigeria is the noise of Hip Hop. Hip hop? Well, good. No problem. But the bottomline is all about trying to ape America. The question we must always ask is: what do we have ourselves to offer. But I am not blaming anybody because you have a right to choose what you want to be.”
