Nigeria to host M-net Face of AfricaFor the first time in the history of the 10- year-old modeling competition, Mnet Face of Africa, Nigeria will be playing host to the rest of Africa at the grand finale slated for Lagos later in the year. Making this disclosure at a press conference last weekend in Lagos during the formal launch of M-net Face of Africa, Managing Director, M-net Nigeria, Mrs Abiola Alabi said the move to host the programme in Nigeria is in line with global demands. According to her, “you will all attest to the growth that is happening in Nigeria from the infrastructure perspective.
The infrastructure is there to support an event like this.”
Unlike in the past where models were selected from different locations in Africa, this year, African girls who are interested in the $50,000 prize win and a chance to model internationally, would have to go online to register and submit a complete application form not later than the 28th of August. Requirement, according to the organisers, states that candidates should be between 18 and 24 years, 1.72 m tall with hip no bigger than 96cm. The production of the M-net Face of Africa will span 17 episodes that will show how she evolved to stardom.Explaining why winners are usually “unAfrican” in size, Mrs Alabi said the search for the winner is usually in line with global demands so that she can be launched into the international market career-wise. “African women come in different sizes, shapes and form. What we are looking for is how to create an iconic African beauty that we can contribute to the world and we have that in Africa.So, the M-net Face of Africa is creating a platform where we can bring women to the forefront so that they can have a global career.” In his contribution, MD, M-net South Africa, Mr Joseph Honda, described the show as the most progressive show M-net ever had as it is changing the lives of young girls for good.It would be recalled that Nigeria’s Oluchi Onweagba, currently making waves in the international modeling scene won the maiden edition of the show 10 years
