OYO SECURITY PATROL LOSES OFFICERS IN AUTO CRASH


 

The crash happened when the patrol team attempted to beat traffic
The Oyo State Joint security patrol, known as Operation Burst, on Thursday, lost four officers in an auto crash that occurred along Mokola-Sango-UI-Ojoo Expressway, Ibadan.
The accident claimed the live of an Army officer and three police officers.
According to an eyewitness, Sunday Odetara, the accident happened when the driver of the security operatives attempted to beat a gridlock traffic that resulted from the weekly environmental sanitation exercise.
Odetara said the driver lost control of the Hilux van at a sharp bend leading to Sango from UI while manoeuvring, hit an electric pole and skidded to the other side of the express-road and rammed into an incoming commercial vehicle.
The four officers reportedly died on the spot while others sustained various degrees of injuries.



The State Police Command spokesperson, Olabisi Ilobanafor confirmed the accident, saying it occurred at about 9am and involved an Operation Burst vehicle, a private vehicle and a motorcycle.
“One Police Inspector, Adebola Apata; a Lance Corporal, Bola (surname withheld), a female police and a private soldier called Oneh died, while Police corporals Bello Kayode and George Adeyemo and Sgt. Abdullahi Mannir (soldier) as well as the driver of the private vehicle and the cyclist were injured,” she said.
The injured victims were taken to the University College Hospital for medical attention.
