Fresh facts emerged on
Tuesday regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of Fuji act, Sunny T Adesokan.
Mrs. Julie Adur, sister to
the late artiste who hailed from Bayelsa State, said he told her that he
fainted along Agege Motor Road on Saturday while going
out.
Adur, who stated that she
would always treasure the comforting talks and presence of her late brother,
whose real name she gave as Sunday Tua, confirmed that the late singer
performed on Friday at a function in Epe area of Lagos State before his demise
on Sunday morning after 4am.
She said, “He came home on
Saturday and told me that he fainted while coming home but was revived by some
Samaritans. He said we should pray that those after his life and success would
not triumph. He sat on one of the chairs singing in the room. I cannot forget
that moment. We were together in the room. praying. Sunny was even the one who
told me that it was 12 am, meaning it was July 1. He
refused to sleep in the bedroom and asked me to spread a bedsheet for him on
the rug. When he woke up around 4am on Sunday, July 1, he woke
me up to boil water for him to bathe.”
Adur further narrated to our
correspondent on Tuesday that Sunny T was about to go into the bathroom when he
slumped when his breathing became heavy. It was then I she shouted for help.
“We rushed him to the Lagos
State Teaching Hospital but it was too late.”
He said, ‘‘I knew him in
1999 at Sajo Nigeria Limited owned by Jolaosho Samod where he and some Fuji artistes used to rent
musical instruments. I was an engineer there.’’
A visitor to Coker Street in Mushin area of Lagos State where the deceased lived
would feel the sober mood which pervaded the area and its environs.
The singer, who had the
appellation Omo Nna to Nko Fuji (A non-Yoruba native who sings Fuji), did not however rake in
mega bucks from music. The modest setting in his two rooms where a television
set and DVD player sat on a shelf were enough proof to his low musical profile.
