Lagos -Daughter of the late
Afro-beat King, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, on Tuesday in Lagos
urged Nigerian women to give priority attention to the upbringing of their
children and wards.
Yeni spoke at the `Felabration’ quiz competition organised in honour of her father,
which held at the Freedom Park,
Lagos.
This year’s ceremony was entitled: “Social Media in Africa:
Good or Bad“, and attracted participants from nine selected secondary schools
in the state.
She advised mothers to mentor and mould their children in the right way, in
order for them to become good citizens in the future.
“When our children become good people in the society, we’ll have good
leaders and things will begin to work very well.
“That is why I decided to include children in this for them to learn and
know that good moral is very important.
“That is why mothers should strive to train their wards very well and ensure
they don’t go astray.
“If they go off track, we begin to have various vices as we are witnessing
today, Yeni said.
She said that she had to put a stop to dancing and frequent travelling when
her mother died in order to have full concentration of her daughter.
“I stopped dancing and travelling when my mother passed on, because there
was nobody to take care of my daughter and I have to start from where she (her
mother) stopped.
“We don’t have to sacrifice our children’s future for anything,“ she
stressed.
‘Felabration’ is a week-long yearly musical show being held in memory of the
late musician.
It would also be recalled that Anikulapo-Kuti, was born on Oct.15, 1938 and
died on Aug. 2, 1997.
Highlights of the ceremony were presentation of prizes to the participating
schools. (NAN)
