After watching his side get totally outplayed by Nigeria’s Super
Eagles in a tune-up game on Tuesday, head coach of Portuguese club,
Farense, Antonio Afonso has heaped praise on the two-time African
champions.
Afonso believes the 5-0 victory of the Super Eagles at the Browns
Sports and Leisure Club in Faro on Tuesday is a pointer to the strength
of the West Africans.
The Portuguese coach also stated his belief that Nigeria will be champions at the 2013 Afcon in South Africa.
“You (the Super Eagles) have what it takes to win the championship,
but you must take each game as it comes and adopt different styles for
different opposition,” Afonso said after the game.

The trainer also took the time to comment on the strong points of
the Eagles’ players with particular emphasis on the pace of the side.
“You have very quick players so don’t allow yourself to be under pressure at any time in the tournament.
“I may not know the teams that will be at the tournament but the
team I saw today (Tuesday) should be among the favourites to win the
(Afcon),” he said.
The Nigerian squad will leave their camp in Faro by 12:30pm
Portuguese time for Lisbon and will connect a flight to Paris, France
before heading to Johannesburg, South Africa for the Afcon, which kicks
off on January 19.
