Osun Festival Repackaged to Meet Global Standards, Says Consultant

The consultant of the Osun Osogbo Festival in Osun, Ayo Olumokoko, on Thursday said this year's celebration had been repackaged to meet the global standard.

Olumoko said in Osogbo that preparation was almost concluded while tourists from many countries had indicated interest to attend the festival.

He lauded the gesture and confidence the sponsors reposed in the annual festival, saying it would make this year's celebration a better outing.

According to him, among the major sponsors that have indicated interest to ensure the success of the festival are Grand Oak, the producer of Seaman Schnapps, Nigerian Breweries and MTN, among others.

Meanwhile, Chief Arowolo Odofin, an adherent of Osun Osogbo, said that the festival was similar to Christmas and Eid-el kabir for the Osun worshipers, who always looked forward to the event.

“We always pray for the festival to hold, it has always been the best moment for us here in Osogbo.

“Aside the spiritual blessings the festival will offer, it is also of great economic importance to us.

“For example, it is going to be a field day for hospitality industry and transporters, people will come from all over the  world to witness the great event,’’ he said.

Also, Alhaji Idowu Akerele, a member of  the  National Union of Road Transport Workers  in Osogbo said the festival was as old as the town itself, adding that the event was for every one.

“Although I am a Muslim, I still feel the impact of the festival in terms of economic opportunity and level of interaction one enjoyed with people from all walks of life.

“I have grown up to see people celebrating the festival in grand style, mostly foreigners, who are not conversant with our culture and tradition; in fact, it is always amazing,” he said.
