The Arsenal picture that should wake up Wenger

From the Invincibles to the Incapables
A decade ago, Arsenal had begun their Premier League campaign with a win at Highbury against Everton, despite playing most of the match with just 10 men.

The Gunners went on to lift the Premier League title without losing a single game all season.
Ten years later, Arsenal were again reduced to 10 men on the opening day, but this time they were already losing to Aston Villa and went on to be defeated 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
From the Invincibles to the Incapables, take a look at how the two line-ups compare, 10 years apart…

The Incapables v The Invincibles
Szceszny v Lehmann
Sagna v Lauren
Mertesacker v Campbell
Koscielny v Toure
Gibbs v Cole
Rosicky v Wiltord
Wilshere v Vieira
Walcott v Pires
Oxlade-Chamberlain v Ljungberg
Ramsey v Gilberto
Giroud v Henry

Subs
Fabianski v Tayor
Jenkinson v Keown
Cazorla v Bergkamp
Frimpong v Parlour
Podolski v Jeffers
(Gnabry and Sanogo made up the rest of the subs bench v Aston Villa. In 2003 only five substitutes were permitted to be named)

How do you think Arsenal will perform this season if they fail to strengthen the current squad? Comment below…
