Who are the world's friendliest/unfriendliest cities?

Unfriendliest cities: - Marseille (France)

The French city of Marseille is named the world's fifth least friendly by readers of Conde Nast Traveler. It has "cool street art," the survey says, but uncool crime levels. Crowded beaches, such those at Pointe Rouge (pictured), can perhaps lead to some people getting a little testy.Ouch! Another French destination in the Conde Nast Traveler unfriendly cities list: Paris comes in at number four. French officials recently admitted the country needs to be friendlier to visitors.Paris

Johannesburg may be "one of the most beautiful cities in the world" says Conde Nast Traveler, but that's not enough to counter the "crime and contrasts" (illustrated by this shopkeeper separated from customers by a security barrier) that earned it the title of least friendly in the magazine's annual list.

Johannesburg (South Africa).
The Russian capital makes a return visit to Conde Nast Traveler's unfriendly cities list, climbing from 16th place last year to 3rd in 2014. The magazine says language barriers may be the cause of unfavorable reviews.Moscow

Friendliest cities: - Sydney

Is there a law that says every city list must say nice things about Sydney? The Aussie metropolis ranks fifth in Conde Nast Traveler's chart of the world's friendliest.

Any excuse for a party. Dublin scores joint fifth place (with Sydney) in the Conde Nast Traveler list of friendliest cities.
Dublin (Ireland)
Australia's second biggest city is its "capital of cool," according to Conde Nast Traveler. Not too cool to make it to the top of the magazine's friendliest city list ... even if it has to share the honor with another city. Melbourne

Aucklanders make joint first place in the Conde Nast Traveler friendliest cities list thanks to their "amazing culture" and the humor they doubtless need to shrug off all those unfunny jokes about Hobbits and sheep.
Auckland (New Zealand)

Australians and New Zealanders tend to get annoyed when their accents get mistaken for one another, but there's one thing they do share.

Both countries can lay claim to hosting the world's friendliest city, with Melbourne and Auckland jointly taking top honors in a new survey.

Another southern hemisphere destination -- South Africa's Johannesburg -- didn't fare quite as well, being named as the most unfriendly.

Conde Nast Traveler magazine's annual Readers' Choice Survey says it was "no surprise readers adore Melbourne," calling it Australia's "capital of cool."

Aucklanders were praised by readers for their "humor" and a view on life that's "something to aspire to attain."
Australia scored a friendly city double, with Sydney also making the top 10 alongside a global scattering that includes Cambodia's "awe-inspiring" temple gateway Siem Reap and "vibrant" Dublin.

The United States fielded two cities onto the friendly list, with Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina, each winning praise.
