Former Nigeria’s head of state and presidential aspirant of All
Progressives congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari has called on Nigerians not to
vote for treasury looters in next year’s general elections.
Buhari spoke yesterday at the Lokoja township stadium during a rally to
welcome some decampees from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
He said the PDP government has failed the masses, explaining that
Nigeria was rich enough to make life comfortable for every one and urged the
electorate to come out en masse to vote out the PDP.
While saying that APC was the only party that could rescue the country
from treasury looters, he said the next five months before the general elections
would be tough.
Also speaking on the occasion, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku said the APC was
set to take over Kogi State and called on the PDP-led administration in the
state to begin to prepare its hand-over note.
The national chairman of APC, John Oyegun, while receiving the
defectors said the large turn out of the people to the rally was a testimony
that Kogi State was now an APC state.
Among the decampees were former acting governor of the state, Chief
Clarence Olafemi, seven members of the state House of Assembly, the former PDP
chairman in the state, Chief John Odawn, former ambassador to Boswana, Isaac
Onu, among others.
However, Alh Isah Echocho contrary to the wide publicity given to the decampee,
at the last minute refused to decamp to the APC on the ground that he may not
be allowed to fly the governorship flag of the APC
He is said to be lobbying governor Idris Wada for the senatorial
position
Reacting to the decamping of the members of PDP to the APC, a statement
from government house lokoja, signed by the special adviser to the governor on
media and strategy, mr Jacob Edi said the PDP was not surprise with those who
defected to the APC
According to the statement, those who defected were those causing
disaffection within the party and called them the “rotten eggs” who were not
comfortable with the giant strides recorded by governor Idris Wada describing
their exit as “ good riddance to bad rubbish”
