Summerside and Charlottetown will hold events next week as Hockey
Canada centennial celebrations roll onto Prince Edward Island.
Hockey Canada turns 100 on Dec. 4, 2014, and the organization is
spending the hockey season celebrating. As part of those celebrations Hockey
Canada has a travelling road show.
The Century Tour, which
commemorates its 100th anniversary, is a 20,000-square-foot interactive hockey
experience caravan that will visit about 100 communities across Canada. It was
launched in Ottawa on July 1 and will criss-cross the country, wrapping up at
the end of May 2015.
Organizers said the stop will include a state-of-the-art interactive
timeline of milestone hockey moments and artifacts, on-ice experiences on a
one-third scale synthetic ice rink, programs and activities specifically
developed for kids, families and newcomers to the game, and a celebration of both
Team Canada and local community hockey leaders.
Summerside will host events Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 1 to
7 p.m. at Credit Union Place.
Charlottetown’s events will be held in the Peakes Quay parking lot on
Friday, Sept. 19, from 1 to 7 p.m., as well as Sept. 20 and Sept. 21,
from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
