THE dust generated by the conduct of the governorship primaries in
the Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) is far from
settling down, as a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has fixed
January 16 for hearing in a suit filed by aggrieved members of the
party.
Mr Akinwunmi Ambode had won the primaries, defeating 11 other
aspirants that contested the seat with him, but the aggrieved members,
including Mr Femi Oluwatosin, had, in the suit number FHC/L/1857/14,
sought the order of the court to invalidate the primaries held on
December 4, on account that the party did not comply substantially with
laid down rules.
According to them, the defendants, including the APC, among others,
did not comply with the provisions of Article 20 of the constitution of
the party and the regulations of the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) in the conduct of the primaries.
Giving his ruling on Friday, Justice A. Yunusa ordered that other
defendants who were not in court be served and that the suit would be
given accelerated hearing.
The case was, therefore, adjourned till January 16.
Two governorship aspirants, Mr Tokounbo Wahab and Dr Leke Pitan, were
represented by their lawyers, Mr Kola Dare and Mr Olawale Salu,
respectively, at the hearing.
