Woman dies after jumping off George Washington Bridge

A woman jumped to her death from the George Washington Bridge early Sunday, officials said.

The woman plunged from the north walkway near the New York tower of the bridge into the Hudson River about 7 a.m., horrified witnesses told Port Authority police.

The NYPD Harbor Unit recovered the body 30 minutes later, authorities said.

The 44-year-old woman left her car at the Fort Lee Historic Park in New Jersey before jumping, according to PA spokesman Joseph Pentangelo.
