The England forward seems increasingly likely to quit
Anfield this summer following the breakdown of contract talks, with
the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid all keeping tabs on the situation.
And while Parry, Liverpool’s former chief executive, believes
it would be best for the 20-year-old to stay on Merseyside, he admits he’s not
entirely shocked by what has happened.
“I don’t know how strong a position the club will take,” he
said on the Alan Brazil
Sports Breakfast. "They are holding a few aces.
“What Raheem should
have done is knuckle down and sign his new contract. He’s got plenty of football ahead of him. I think the best place for
him would be Liverpool and the best manager would be Brendan Rodgers, given the support they’ve given
him and his development.
“But, equally so, he’s done it once. They took him from QPR
and it’s going to happen again. So in some ways what do people expect?
