Jimmy McMillan endorses Deez Nuts for President — and he’s going to
launch his own bid as a Republican so the Iowa teen can have the Rent is
Too Damn High Party’s nomination.
The brazen political activist told the Daily News that he fully supports Brady Olson, a 15-year-old from Wallingford, Iowa, who filed to run for President under the name “Deez Nuts”
“Deez Nuts has the power to inspire young people and turn this country
around,” he said. “Deez Nuts can get the young people excited!”
Nuts, who is polling at 9% in North Carolina, filed his campaign
paperwork as an independent but said he would consider running under the
Rent is Too Damn High Party.
McMillan plans to announce his own bid for President in October, he
told the Daily News exclusively on Friday. But he will run as a
Republican so Nuts can be the Rent is Too Damn High Party’s candidate.
“We will nominate Deez Nuts if he wants to run for the young people and
the future of this country,” McMillan said in all seriousness. “I would
vote for Deez Nuts to let the people know that something needs to
change.”
McMillan, who first made headlines when he appeared in New York's 2010
gubernatorial debate, has not yet filed his own paperwork to run. If he
does run as a Republican, he would join 17 other major candidates,
including front-runners Donald Trump and Jeb Bush.
The Rent is Too Damn High Party founder said he understood that Nuts
cannot legally become President because he is not yet 35. Still, the
activist said the teen's campaign will be a source of inspiration for
young voters.
“Deez Nuts would be great because the children need to get involved,”
he said. “They need to tell these other candidates, these old men who
are taking the country down the hell hole, that something needs to
change. The youths are hurting — they can’t get jobs, they can’t buy a
home — and these old people are doing nothing for them.”
Interest in Nuts’ campaign has surpassed that of Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, according to Google Trends. More people have searched for the teen than the former Secretary of State in the past three days, Google tweeted Friday.
McMillan — who has previously run for President, the mayor of New York
City and the governor of New York — said the teen’s interest in politics
has reignited his own interest in politics. While he’s been planning
his own bid for months, Nuts’ candidacy cemented his decision to seek
the presidency.
“Deez Nuts has woke me up! If a 15-year-old can see what is wrong with this country, then why can’t a 51-year-old?” he said.
The Rent is Too Damn High Party founder encouraged Nuts to stay away
from politics as usual and advised him to be a voice for young voters.
