A Times Square painted lady charged with offering an undercover cop
oral sex says the naked truth is that she’s the victim of a frame job.
Destiny Romero told the Daily News Sunday during a brief interview at
Rikers Island that police concocted the story that she arranged to sell
an officer $200 worth of cocaine and molly and perform the sex act.
“Everything they said about me was false,” Romero, 20, said. “It was a setup.”
She said she’d worked in Times Square as a desnuda for about a year and
that her friend and handler, Jason Perez, got her into the job.
Romero faces charges of drug possession and sale, and prostitution, cops said.
Perez, 23, was charged last week with promoting prostitution, sale and
possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.
Both have prior arrests, as well. Romero has been nabbed at least five
times, including an assault charge on July 15. Perez was arrested in
September 2014 for pot possession and in October 2014 for grand larceny,
police sources said.
Their arrests came amid a crackdown on Times Square performers due to
concerns by Mayor de Blasio and others that Times Square had become too
raunchy.
De Blasio has established a task force charged with figuring out legal
ways to reign in the desnudas, as well as the costumed characters often accused of harassing tourists for tips.
Romero has previously told the Daily News that de Blasio is wrong to
crack down on the bare-chested women with patriotic makeup.
“The authorities gave us the right to be topless,” said Romero. “Now,
they’re taking it away. It’s a whole bunch of hateration.”
