Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has been passed fit
to face former club Everton on Saturday, manager
Louis van Gaal has confirmed.
Rooney missed England's Euro 2016 qualifying victories over
Estonia and Lithuania because of an ankle problem, but van Gaal says his
captain will be fit to play at Goodison Park.
Rooney, 29, has played 11 times for the Red Devils this
season, netting on five occasions.
His availability will come as a welcome boost as United look
to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal before the international break.
Michael Carrick is
also available to face the Toffees after recovering from a groin
injury, while Bastian Schweinsteiger is fit having overcome a thigh
problem.
United will, however, be unable to call upon Ashley Young after he picked up a calf injury.
"Ashley Young is injured. He cannot play, but Wayne Rooney can play," Van Gaal said.
