The episode starts off in the future again, where Lily (Annie
Wersching) seems to have taken Damon (Ian Somerhalder) captive. By Lily
standards, this seems like pretty normal behavior.
What’s surprising is that, in the present day, Lily and her sons seem
to be getting along. The Salvatore sons, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and
Valerie (Elizabeth Blackmore) sit down to plot Julian’s death — with
Lily’s blessing, as per the last episode.
At the mansion, Lily is trying to plan a party to celebrate Nora
(Scarlett Byrne) and Mary Louise’s (Teressa Liane) anniversary. Enzo
confronts her while she’s in the library — because that’s totally the
place everyone goes to plan a party — and confesses his love for her all
over again.
At the party, Julian (Todd Lasance) finally reveals why he’s been
collecting an army of compelled people — he wanted them as party guests
and buffet items rolled into one.
Just as Damon, Valerie and Stefan are about to leave for the party,
Caroline (Candice King) shows up — to tell Stefan that she’s magically
pregnant with Jo’s twins.
Meanwhile, at the party, Julian tries to convince Lily that she needs
to feed on the guests and give up on her dreams of having her two
families live together happily.
Damon shows up at the party and gets in a spat with Lily, but they still decide to go through with their plans.
Outside of the mansion, in a beautiful lakeside scene, Mary Louise asks
Nora to marry her and Nora gleefully agrees — just before Valerie
bursts in on the scene.
She wants to confront Nora and Mary Louise and tell them about Julian’s
evils. As she does so, Stefan and Damon attack Julian. Lily strolls in
and confirms Valerie’s story.
Then, as Damon and Stefan begin attacking Julian, Lily starts
spontaneously bleeding — in front of the heretics, who all have the
power to untether her life from Julian’s and allow her to live even when
her evil lover dies.
Stefan gets some of Julian’s blood to use in the untethering spell and —
in the middle of some serious drama — decides to take a moment for a
heart-to-heart with her son.
Mary Louise, meanwhile, finds the room where Julian is being held
captive till Lily can be untethered. Not convinced by Valerie’s story,
Mary Louise knocks out Julian’s captors, Damon and Valerie.
