WARRI—The Itsekiri monarch, His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of
Warri, has vowed not to betray the confidence and trust of his subjects,
promising to provide true and transparent reign.
The Olu, in his first post coronation media briefing, yesterday, at
the Aghofen Palace, Warri, Delta State, highlighted peace building and
good neighbourliness as priorities in his reign agenda.
“I will not engage in any matter that will embarrass our people. We
must maintain and even improve on the fragile peace Warri now enjoys,”
he said.
To the media, which he thanked for “wide media coverage” over his
ascension to the throne, Ogiame Ikenwoli urged them to, “Focus on issues
that unite us and our neighbours, and avoid sensational negative
stories that could polarise us and promote bitterness and rancour.”
He expressed concern over the misrepresentation of his title
following his enthronement, warning that the development may not be
pardoned by the palace if it was repeated.
Ojomo of Warri, Chief Yaya Pessu who expressed the concern on behalf
of the monarch said, “From the moment he wore the crown, our king
henceforth is to be addressed as His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu
of Warri.”
