Top ten things that broke the internet in 2015

It took more than Kim Kardashian’s champagne-holding rear end to break the Internet this year.
In 2015, a highly debated dress, a hungry rat and a hot new hookup slang joined the ranks of temporary Internet sensations like planking and the ice bucket challenge.
Before ringing in the new year, look back at the top ten things that made everyone online go crazy in 2015:

10. Lllama drama

What broke the internert in 2015? The dress and nine other viral things.

A pair of escaped llamas sent cops in Sun City, Ariz., on a wild chase in late February, and the internet joined in to watch the furry chaos.
The frenzy started when a llama mama and her baby fled a show-and-tell presentation and police failed to corral them for nearly 30 minutes.

Social media users cheered on the duo as they frolicked in freedom around the city.
The rebellious social media darlings soon had their own Twitter account and hashtag.

9. Kylie Jenner’s lips

The internet desperately wanted Kylie Jenner’s surgically enhanced pout.
The teen was caught with fuller lips back in April and the #KylieJennerlipchallenge was quickly born.
Back then, the reality starlet was still attributing her lip plumpness to over lip-lining.
Results were simple to achieve: Insert lips into a shot glass and suck for volume.
By the end of the year, the 18-year-old fessed up to her lip injections and her lip kit sold out in 30 seconds in November.

8. Condom Challenge

Latex was never so popular.
The 2015 generation put condoms to a new use when videos of water-filled condoms dropped on willing participants went viral during the fall.
If done correctly, the latex globe stayed in tact and engulfed the person’s head.
Some said the potentially dangerous trend was meant to debunk the myth that certain males are too well-endowed to abide by the no glove, no love rule.

7.Caitlyn Jenner

It was Caitlyn Jenner and not Kim Kardashian who broke the Internet in 2015.
Jenner sparked a national conversation about gender identity when she revealed her gender transition in a “20/20” interview in April.
Her debut as Caitlyn Jenner on Twitter broke a world record, gaining 1 million followers in a little more than four hours. The previous holder was President Barack Obama.
Jenner has remained a talking topic online since and caused a stir in October when users debated her being named Glamour Women of the Year.

6. Rachel Dolezal

Not everything was as easy as black and white when the world learned of Rachel Dolezal.
The former NAACP leader from Spokane, Wash., lied about her race as African American, only to be outed by her white parents in June.
The 37-year-old finally admitted she was “born white” in November but reiterated she identifies as black.

5.Netflix and Chill

For those in the dark, “Netflix and chill” was the new code for getting down in 2015.
However, the highly quoted slang became more of a parody than actually leading to any action for youngsters.
The Internet exploded with priceless memes like “When it’s 2 hours into Netflix and chill and he still hasn’t made a move.”
Other hilarious jems involved clueless parents asking kids about the euphemism or concerned parents who actually knew the meaning behind the words.

4. Hotline Bling

Drake added meme to his resume in October.
The rapper took the Internet by storm with his music video for “Hotline Bling.”
The Degrassi alum wasn’t busting out any new moves to make him join the “Whip and Nae Nae” craze, but he could be found in every corner of the Internet.
Within minutes, Internet fandom had Drake dancing with a lightsaber, with “Peanuts” Linus and Lucy and the hashtags #DrakeAslwaysOnBeat and #dancelikeDrake had taken off.

3. Pizza rat

This brief but huge Internet sensation gave the world some serious inspiration.
Dubbed “Pizza Rat,” a New York City rodent was caught trying to take off with an entire slice of pizza.
The little guy eventually gave up but his determination was a hit online, with many comparing their daily grind to the struggles of the defeated rat.
Since then, pizza rat was seen in Halloween costumes and will make a cameo in “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.”

2. Left shark

FEB. 1, 2015, FILE PHOTO If Pizza Rat highlighted the daily struggles of life, then left shark was everyone at their most awkward.
The costumed dancing shark stole the show from Katy Perry during the Super Bowl’s halftime performance.
The unexpected star couldn’t keep a beat while dancing with the pop star. Right shark, however, didn’t miss a mark.
Like other viral sensations, left shark was a hit choice for Halloween and was quickly incorporated into a slew of memes.

1. The dress

This outfit will go down in viral history, but not for its style.
Perhaps the Internet’s biggest debate was sparked in late February when this optical illusion freaked people out. Was it black and blue...or white and gold?
It’s a question still debated by some today — even though the dress maker has confirmed it is indeed black and blue.
One thing is for sure, anything can be famous today.
