Top ten things that broke the internet in 2015

It took more than Kim Kardashian’s champagne-holding rear end to break the Internet this year.

In 2015, a highly debated dress, a hungry rat and a hot new hookup slang joined the ranks of temporary Internet sensations like planking and the ice bucket challenge.

Before ringing in the new year, look back at the top ten things that made everyone online go crazy in 2015:

10. Lllama drama 

A pair of escaped llamas sent cops in Sun City, Ariz., on a wild chase in late February, and the internet joined in to watch the furry chaos.

The frenzy started when a llama mama and her baby fled a show-and-tell presentation and police failed to corral them for nearly 30 minutes.

Ofcom warns BT change is ahead over internet provision

Critics of BT say it has not invested enough in Openreach and want it sold.

Ofcom's chief executive, Sharon White, is currently reviewing the company's provision of superfast broadband.

She said one option was "the structural separation" of Openreach from BT.

NCC Said, Increase Number of Internet users hit 88 million

The number of internet users on the country’s telecom networks, had increased to 88,284,193 as at May, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said in its Monthly Internet Subscriber Data on Monday.

 

The data revealed that there was an increase of 1,228,711 internet users on both the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks in May.

Nigeria leads with highest mobile share of Web traffic

Growth rates continue to soar as Nigeria currently leads with the highest mobile data traffic ahead of India and South Africa. Webpage views from mobile phones have now surpassed those from PCs (desktop computers) as mobile devices remain the primary means of accessing the internet in Nigeria.

In Nigeria, Africa’s largest internet market, 77 percent of the traffic from its 83 million large internet user base is mobile according to BusinesDay analysis of Q1 2015 statistics from independent web analytics firm StatCounter.
