The
striker has bagged seven league goals so far this term and hit 14 last season
to help Gent win the Belgian Pro League.
Both
Villa and Spurs have sent scouts to watch the 27-year-old in action, who made
his debut for Belgium back in October.
And
now, according to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, the Premier League pair
are ready to go head to head for Depoitre.
Spurs
have made no secret of their desire to add to their striking options after losing
Emmanuel Adebayor in the summer. Their attempts to sign Saido Berahino
were rebuffed by West Bromwich Albion
boss Tony Pulis, leaving Harry Kane as the only senior
striker in the squad.
Meanwhile,
Villa are languishing at the foot of the table, having just scored 13 goals all
season. The Villans are still looking to plug the gap left by the summer
departure of Christian Benteke
to Liverpool and the Gent star could answer his
problems.
The
Belgian Pro League leaders have no plans to part with the star striker,
and are likely to reject any approach.
