An Indian woman brutalized and disfigured in an acid attack is now the new face of a fashion brand’s latest campaign.
Laxmi Agarwal, 26, will sport an array of elegant clothes for the Surat-India based Viva N Diva Couture’s new line.
At age 15, Agarwal’s life changed forever when a man she wouldn’t marry
punished her by throwing a toxic mixture of corrosive chemicals at her
face.
“We saw beauty in a very different way and all that we could think of
was to capture it in a way that gave it meaning,” Viva N Diva Couture’s
spokesman Ayushi Rastogi told the Hindustan Times of the “Face of
Courage” campaign.
The goal is to expand the definition of style and fashion by spreading a positive message of beauty beneath the surface.
And Agarwal’s life is certainly one of beauty.
She managed to rise above her tragedy and became a fierce advocate for tougher punishments for those who commit acid attacks on women in India.
Today, Agarwal is a wife, mother and activist known for her tireless
effort towards improving the lives of women who are assaulted — and now
model.
