The Lagos State Signage and
Advertisement Agency has lamented that its officials are constantly
being harassed by some members of the public in the course of carrying
out their duties in the state.
The agency said such practice must stop,
adding that it was exploring available options to ensure that those who
attacked officials of LASAA did not go scot-free.
The Managing Director of the agency, Mr.
Mobolaji Sanusi, on Thursday stated that one of such attacks was made
on workers of the agency in the FESTAC area.
He said, “An attack on the agency’s team was led by a security guard attached to Emglo Suites
in FESTAC Town. The armed guard descended on LASAA officials in their
effort to remove an illegal banner on Emglo Suite’s premises. The
security guard threatened the officials of LASAA with a pump-action
rifle, which was later seized by the police team attached to the
agency.”
Sanusi said the hotel
owned advertisement permit fees, adding that the visit by LASAA was
part of efforts to ensure settlement of all the outstanding debt owed
the agency.
He added that those behind the attack in the FESTAC Town
had been arrested and handed over to the Lagos State Taskforce on
Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit for necessary
legal action.
A text message sent to the hotel on the issue had yet to be replied to.
