The highly rumored candidate for “Live! With Kelly and Michael” told
Andy Cohen on Thursday night that he's content with his journalistic
career.
“Look, I’m very happy at CNN,” he insisted
Still, Cooper could be open to changing his mind.
“It would be a dream to work with Kelly, but nobody’s offering anything
so...” he explained when asked if he would take the hosting job.
Speculation was rampant that the 48-year-old was a front-runner for the
gig since Strahan announced he was departing the chat fest for “Good
Morning America.”
Longtime "Live!" host Kelly Ripa was seen with the anchor's recently
published book "The Rainbow Comes and Goes" as she returned to the show
earlier this week.
Cooper — a good pal of his potential future coworker — downplayed the rumors and instead praised the daytime show's hosts.
"Listen, I love Kelly and I think that show is… Kelly is the heart and
soul of that show and it's going to go on and continue to be great and I
wish Michael the best in his new endeavor,” he added during his
appearance on “Watch What Happens Live.”
Coincidentally, Bravo hotshot Cohen, who said the Cooper would be good
for the role, has also already stressed he’s too busy to join ABC.
Both men were potential hosts when Regis Philbin left, along with 57 other stars who tried for the anchor seat alongside Ripa.
Ripa and ABC have yet to comment on who will fill Strahan’s giant shoes
but a source recently told People magazine that Cohen, Cooper, Josh
Groban and Seth Meyers have been lined up as guest host.
Strahan’s last day will be May 13 — four months earlier than expected
when he first announced his exit and set Ripa on a “fit” and four day
hiatus from the show.
