South Africa's CWU Workers march to Telkom over wage demands

THE Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) marched to Telkom headquarters on Tuesday to deliver a memorandum of wage demands.

If nothing is done by next Thursday, they will march to the JSE, said CWU general secretary Aubrey Tshabalala.

The CWU is also threatening to "cripple operations by fully withdrawing our labour not only in Telkom, but in all its subsidiaries like we have started at Trudon".

Workers are demanding, among other things, an 11% salary increase, six months’ fully paid maternity leave, and a moratorium on retrenchments and outsourcing for checkpoint divisions.
