Kim Kardashian and Kanye West went from living the good life to a seemingly simple one.
At least that's what they want you to think on social media. Kardashian recently posted a series of stripped-down snapshots to Instagram that left some fans wondering why the two international megastars are trying to look "poor."
In the photo set, the "Good Life" rapper and the reality TV queen are
seen wearing uncharacteristically plain clothing as they play with their
children in a house bereft of opulent furniture, decor and art —
unbefitting of two multimillionaires.
"Does anyone else think she's trying to redeem herself?" one user
commented beneath a photo of West and his son Saint in the humble living
room. "Spends years flaunting herself and her wealth but all of a
sudden it looks like she's living in a shack and it's all about kids.
Trying too hard to make people think she's living a simpler life."
Another added, "Oh look at me I'm so artistic and edgey (sic) because I
take pictures pretending that look like their (sic) from the 80s and
we're poor."
Kardashian’s new photos don’t exactly fit in line with her historically
ostentatious image. She did, after all, feud with her mother Kris
Jenner on an episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” last year
after she accused Jenner of taking ten golden marble slabs shipped
directly from Italy that were intended to be used for West’s bathroom.
“They don't have that same marble,” Kardashian kvetched in the episode.
“They only have calacatta. They do not have calacatta gold in stock.”
She ultimately offered Jenner $1 million if she could find the same lavish slabs in America.
Kardashian, 36, made her big return to social media
at the beginning of the month after a lengthy hiatus following her
harrowing robbery in Paris last October. Thieves stole more than than $5
million worth of jewelry from her in the horrific ordeal, prompting
Kardashian to begin keeping a lower, less flashy profile.
The Instagram photos are the latest example of that. In her first
upload in three months, Kardashian shared an artsy family photo with
West and their two kids, each wearing plain white clothing without a
luxury brand logo in sight.
And while most were pleased to see Kardashian return to social media
after all she's been through, some clearly weren't a fan of her newfound
basic approach.
"Stop acting poor it isn't a fashion statement," one user commented.
It's been a relatively nondescript year to 2017 for the famous family
after a tumultuous ending to 2016. In addition to Kardashian's robbery,
the 39-year-old West was hospitalized for more than a week in November
following a nervous breakdown.
