The former boxing champion was arrested for DUI in Pasadena, Ca., Tuesday night, TMZ reports.
De La Hoya was reportedly pulled over for speeding around 2 a.m. Law
enforcement officials told TMZ officers suspected the 43-year-old was
drunk during the stop.
Police later arrested De La Hoya after he failed field sobriety tests.
He was charged with DUI and later released to his manager.
TMZ said De La Hoya was seen at different bars in the area prior to his
DUI arrest. He was spotted taking a picture with a fan at Barney’s
Beanery at some point during the night.
During his years as a fighter, De La Hoya held world titles in six
different weight classes. However, his personal life has been all over
the place since he stopped boxing.
Towards the end of his career in 2007, De La Hoya was photographed
cross dressing which caused controversy. He’d admit to Univision in 2011
that it was him in the pictures.
His recent arrest for DUI also isn’t his first experience with substance abuse.
He underwent treatment at rehab for alcoholism in 2011 and again in 2013.
