You almost won the Big Brother Nigeria Challange and it was
interesting watching you on our tv screens. In your opinion, how would
you sum up your experience in the Big Brother house?
My
time in the big brother house was very interesting, i had fun in the
house. So many things i never thought i could do, i found out that if I
push myself more and I dont put myself in that box of fear, I could
actually achieve a lot.
Physically i do a bit of jogging, but that
house made me go all the way. I also found out that i had a little bit
more determination than i thought I had. So all of these summed up
together made the stay in the big brother house interesting.
And i
started out as a singer in the entertainment industry then i stopped
for a bit, but going into the house, and being with the other house
mates they kind of pushed me. They suggested I give music a shot again
as you never know, so I am definately going to do that.
You
were pretty popular before you went into the house, and now that has
escalated to a higher level. How is this new level of fame different
from what you knew?
It is different because before going
into the big brother house I could still walk on the streets. I could go
see a movie and probably have no one recognise me and if they do they
really couldn't place or put a name to the face. Now with big brother, i
literally have to hide; duck my head so nobody sees me. So its
different. I went on the big brother platform to showcase myself more,
basically to help push and boost my career as an entertainer, actor,
singer and yes it has done that. It was not what I expected, it is way
bigger, beyond my imagination and i am grateful for that.
Your
daughter is at an age where she needs lots of attention. How do you
juggle work schedule which isn't the regimented 9-5 with family life?
It
is not easy, I have the support of my mum and my sister. My mum has
been a huge backbone. She tries as much as possible to make sure my
daughter doesn't feel my absence. I just try, I still try to strike a
balance with it. The time i have to spend with her we talk, we go
out...what i try to do when i am in Lagos is every morning i take her to
school, if i get home late or early the next morning, I cross check her
assignments and make sure she's fine before leaving for school.
How does she feel about the whole big brother experience, does she get attention from her friends?
Yes
she does get attention, and I am trying really hard not to put her in
the public eye because i still want her to have her childhood. People
can be really nasty and I have heard a few comments. People are sending
messages regarding my daughter and I am not really impressed with that.
So I'm like let me allow her have her childhood and be herself. If she
wants to grow up and be in peoples faces or go into entertainment on her
own, let her have that option. I would not be the one to shove her out
there. But for her she is still a child, she's pretty much the same.
Maybe she does brag about her mum to her friends. She likes to show off a
bit and I still spank her when its needed
With a
new management deal at hand and knowing that you will have to focus on a
particular talent. Which one of your talents are you most passionate
about pursuing and which would you apply more of your energy to?
As
i said eralier, i started with music in the entertainment industry,
that didn't really work out fine because I didn't have the right
management and then i tried my hands on acting. I was also an on air
personality and also hosted events- You know i did/do it all. I would
dabble into most if not all them.
Music, acting definitely and a
bit of hosting- hosting of shows would be great. But I cannot say for
now which i would solely focus my energy on. I just want to try it all
and then i go with the flow. I am comfortable with doing all these
things. None of them makes me uncomfortable. If it is the music that
does more, that would probably take more of my time but that doesn't
mean i will shove acting aside. I just need to try them out first and
whichever is stronger i will go with.
So what is your first love, Music or acting?
Music actually.
I
am recording a few songs on my own but I haven't gotten interest from a
record label yet. Maybe that's because they want to see what I will put
out. I released a track sometime last year 2016. It was while i was in
the big brother house people got to know about that song. So i just want
to try more, maybe put more stuff out there.
What i have been getting though is a number of scripts, calls from different producers trying to work with me and all of that.
Still on the music, how would you describe your sound?
Personally,
I love RnB but watching other artists and musicians in this industry,
it is really not about what you want or what you love. You will probably
have to go with the sound of what people are listening to at the
moment. I will try to give it a shot; work with afroboeats producers,
try to infuse my RnB vibe into it and see how it is received by the
public. Then maybe over time when people have accepted Bisola as the
musician I can now introduce my original sound to them. If they accept
it even better, if not, we keep it pushing.
Various
clips have shown you talking to different groups of people, ranging
from women, kids to less privileged people. Of these groups of people
/organization, which of them would you like to work with more and be an
influencer for in terms of philanthropy?
First and foremost, i am an ambassador for one.org.
It was while in the house we got to find out that about 130 million
girls are out of school globally. It is really saddening, even in
Nigeria, in the North I think it is about only 3% of girls that complete
secondary school. Why can't we just help them? Even if they do not want
to go to school and they require vocational training, why can't we just
help. Let's educate them properly in whatever skill they need to
acquire so they are well equipped to survive in this harsh economy.
When I won the task and I became an ambassador for one.org,
it was gratifying as it is a cause i will be willing to fight for
regardless. I was also contacted by 'Women Arise', they help victims of
domestic violence. I saw a couple of pictures and videos and it was
heart wrenching. I would love to create more awareness. Domestic
violence has no gender however the ratio of female victims to male is
extremely high especially in Nigeria. I want to create awareness, talk
to the younger generation so it doesn't become an inherent trend. Still
on domestic violence, I would love to focus on Nannies, helps,
housekeepers because they get abused a lot from their bosses. Many
people aren't talking about that and I would like to do that.
Personally,
I would love to work with people with special needs. There is a school
in Yaba called Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care & Treatment Home
School. I was there once and it broke my heart to see the state in which
they live in. We have these people caring for them, they are not happy
themselves. So I would love to do something for kids and the carers just
to make them happy. If the carers can go to work glad doing what they
are doing, it will help spread more love and care to these children.
With fame being a wild dangerous beast, how do you plan to manage what has become your new status?
I
am still trying to manage it. Its not been easy, I have seen people get
drowned in fame and I really don't want that to be my case so I am
treading softly. The good thing I now have a management company that
will help me with that, I am just hoping I tread softly, cautiously and
that I am able to achieve all that I have set out to achieve.
What can we expect from the Bisola brand?
I
have a two movies coming out. One is called picture perfect coming out
on 7th of July and Music, Friendship and Conflict which is kind of like a
musical- i am really excited about that and looking forward to it. The
release date has not been set yet but It will be out really soon.
