The constant message relayed in our society that money is the most important thing in our lives and the constant desire for more, has far reaching consequences for our societal value system. Indeed, wealth has become the ultimate measure of who we are and we have become defined by it.
This unending pursuit of money has damaged family relationships, our environment and our country.
Money certainly buys nice things and it improves the quality of life and standard of living. Yes, money is important, as it helps us to pay our bills, educate our children, support our families and so on.
But i am convinced that if we rely on money as the key to happiness, it can be illusory as it does not usually address the real issues; concern for family, problems in relationships, and work related stress.
Beyond that, longer-term happiness depends upon one’s personality and the truly important things in life: a strong relationship with God, a loving family, good reliable friends, good health, a fulfilling job or business, a safe environment, sound values and freedom.
Next to these things all the money in the world pales into insignificance.
What do you think?
