We are pleased to announce the election of Aluko & Oyebode Partner, Tonye Krukrubo, as the Vice Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK (Nigeria Branch), Port Harcourt Chapter.
An experienced barrister, arbitrator and
negotiator; Tonye is a senior member of the Dispute Resolution practice
group of the Firm.
Tonye heads the Firm’s Port Harcourt office and he
regularly represents the Firm’s diverse clients in both
corporate/commercial issues and dispute resolution matters. He has
extensive experience in oil and gas, environment, labour, commercial and
banking litigation.
Tonye has led the Firm’s team in various
negotiations on behalf of his clients with Trade Unions, various
regulatory bodies such as the Department of Petroleum Resources,
Government Ministries and Parastatals. He is presently the Chairman, Law
Reform Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association Port Harcourt Branch.
On his appointment, Tonye Krukrubo said: “As
arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms
are beginning to gain some momentum in the Nigerian legal space,
particularly against the back drop of the recent directive by the Chief
Justice of Nigeria on the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution
mechanisms including arbitration; this position will give me the
opportunity to contribute to the strengthening of professionalism;
accountability and policy reforms among arbitrators in both the private
and public sectors.”
