Lagos Population Now Over 24m

Ambode Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has said the population of the state is now over 24 million, equivalent to those of 30 African countries combined.

The governor made this known at a round-table on infrastructure financing organised by the Harvard Business School Association of Nigeria in collaboration with the state government.

By the year 2050, the governor said, the estimated population of Lagos will jump to 36 million, or emerge as the world’s sixth largest city, after Mumbai, New Delhi, Dhaka, Kinshasa and Kokhata.

At the moment, Ambode explained that an average of 86 people migrate into the city every hour, higher those of New York, London and Manhattan.

He put the population density of Lagos at 6,939 people per kilometre and an average of five persons in every household.

“We have a migration rate of 86 people moving into Lagos every hour, higher than New York, London or Mumbai; we have a population density of 6,939 persons per Kilometre and an average of 5 persons per household.”

“As at 2015, our State had 16,000km network of roads but with a daily human traffic of over 7.5m people and 2.8m cars..." Ambode...An Enviable Political Ideology, Brand & Movement Beyond 2019.
