The sportswear label Nike has unveiled a brand-new trainer
sole formula that promises to improve athletes' performance with 13%
greater energy return than the brand’s previous Nike Lunar sole.
Bret
Schoolmeester, senior director at Nike Running Footwear explains the
sportswear label’s motivation behind its creation, “Our design process
really does start with athletes. Any good design needs a clear problem
to solve. For this particular case, it was really about making sure we
are putting everything we possibly could into a foam. Our athletes gave
us a pretty clear but difficult brief to hit, which was, ‘how do you
remove any possible sacrifice from performance?’.”
Nike React combines formerly mutually exclusive
qualities of softness, responsiveness and durability, while remaining
lightweight.
Teasing the product on Instagram, the
prototype picture shows a foot mould placed on top of foam, a pillow and
springs with the following caption: “The inspiration for a running
innovation that feels like this (without actually looking like this).”
The first iteration, the Epic React trainers will be available on Nike.com from February 22nd and will retail at £130.
