The Governor Emmanuel Udom-led Akwa Ibom State Government has scored another first with the introduction of Ibom Air.
According to information from the Government House in Uyo, Ibom Air is exclusively owned by
Akwa Ibom State Government, but its management and operations would align with the world best practices.
The new airline, the source said, is expected to provide 400 direct and indirect jobs.
"I can confirm to you that Ibom Air will commence flight operations immediately after the staff training; the essential test run exercises; and the certification by the appropriate regulatory authorities. I can assure you that Ibom Air will soon begin to fly in the Nigerian airspace.
"As we speak, Akwa Ibom Government has acquired three new aircrafts to start the operation. All the new aircrafts will soon arrive in Uyo. Uyo is ready for the world. Akwa Ibom State is set for business and tourism.
"You can place it on record that Ibom Air will begin operation with Uyo-Lagos-Abuja routes. The overall targeted goal of the Ibom Air is to boost the state's economy and tourism. Other routes will surely come on board later," the source said.
