FG Declares Public Holiday For Elections, Excludes Bankers

NIGERIA- Prior to the upcoming 2019 election in the country, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government Wednesday declared February 22, 2019 as a public holiday for Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.


The public holiday announcement was contained in
a statement by the Ministry of Interior headed by Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd). 

The Federal Government, however, exempted bankers and other essential services workers from the holiday.

“Federal Government declares Friday 22, February 2019 as work-free day. Those providing essential duties and bankers are excluded.

“The work-free day is to enable citizens return to their poling units for the reschedule Presidential & National Assembly elections. 

“Security agencies have been directed to ensure safety of lives and property before, during and after the general election," the ministry said.
