AKWA-IBOM- Senate
President Bukola Saraki Wednesday commissioned the Ibom Air in Uyo and
commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom, for such laudable
project.
In his remarks during the commissioning ceremony, the Senate President said: "The Ibom Air and other laudable projects by Governor Emmanuel Udom demonstrate the ingenuity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led governments, and the commitment of our party to create jobs and encourage commerce across the nation."
He charged the people of Akwa Ibom State to join other Nigerians and vote en masse for the PDP at all levels in the forthcoming general elections for a better Nigeria.
Also speaking at the event, Udom emphasised the importance of aviation development in his administration's vision for the industrialisation of the state.
The governor assured that Ibom Air has come to stay, saying the airline would witness massive expansion in the coming days.
Udom allayed fears on the uncertain future of the airline, assuring that Ibom Air would not suffer the usual premature death that often characterised government-owned businesses.
"Having turned Akwa Ibom State to an investors’ haven in less than four years of my administration, there is therefore,a strong need to improve infrastructure and facilities in our airport to get the facility ready for the influx of investors.
"We’ve recorded remarkable achievements in the aviation sector. These include: construction of a second runway at Victor Attah International Airport; upgrade of the airport's main runway to Category 2 (CAT 2 Certification); construction of a new Commercial Building Terminal; and installation of full runway lighting," the governor said.
