CCT Verdict! Onnoghen Found Guilty - Stripped of All Benefits, Lost Monies in Five Bank Accounts and Barred from Holding Public Office for 10 Years

Relying on the CCT Act, the Tribunal sacked Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria even though the convicted justice had resigned his appointment a few weeks ago.
The CCT 3-man panel led by Justice Danladi Umar ruled that Onnoghen breached the provision of CCT Act Section 36.
It is not however clear if the Federal Government would now proceed to file criminal charges against the convicted former Chief Justice of Nigeria in a competent court of law.
Onnoghen was also stripped of all benefits attached to former offices he held; he would lose monies in five bank accounts traced to him; and he has been barred from holding public office in the next ten years.
The 5th Schedule, Section 18 of the 1999 Constitution clearly states the punishment the CCT may impose and the right of appeal of any public officer found guilty.
