Lagos Fashion Week 2022: Day 4 & 5 Recap

Lagos Fashion Week is officially over!  Here’s a recap of Day 4 & Day 5. Day 4 Saturday, 29th October, marked Day 4 and the final day of on-site runway shows. It also marked the last day of Fashion Week Swapshop. Day 4 hosted a one day-workshop charged at empowering female fashion entrepreneurs with the SHF prism by Sunlight Nigeria. Some Collections from the Runway:

Austrian Lace The Austrian Lace show opened with live music and was filled with multiple looks from fringes to corset floor-sweeping gowns, three-pieces, monochrome looks with bucket hats, and Agbada. Pieces from the showcase were collectively designed by AnnCranberry, Derin Fabikun, Getoworld, and Weizdhumfranklyn. Abigail Ajobi Straight off from London, Abigail Ajobi is a streetwear sustainable brand. For her debut collection at Lagos Fashion Week, she was inspired by the love story of her parents whose faces featured in prices.  Babayo After a digital presentation at 2021 Lagos Fashion Week, Babayo returned with a proper runway debut. The brand’s nomadic aesthetic was fresh and captivating. Pepperrow Pepperrow is a sustainable fashion brand and with its 2023 Spring/Summer collection, the ethos of the brand was even more clear and fore-fronted. We saw colourful prints, raffia skirts, puffy sleeves, and lace. Overall, the collection was a beautiful body of work. Orire This season, the ethical brand debuted their 2023 Spring/Summer collection titled “Sequoia”. The collection was filled with beautiful colorful silhouettes reminding us that the brand explores artistic femininity. Maxhosa Africa   Maxhosa Africa is a South African fashion brand. Maxhosa’s design highlights the beauty, culture, language, and aspirations of the Xhosa people. For the brand’s showcase at Lagos Fashion Week, designs were a mix of streetwear in colorful palettes, gowns, and matching headpieces like bucket hats, face caps, and caps with fringes. In addition, the brand’s initials were printed on the fabrics. Bloke Titled “A Polaroid named Camouflage”, Bloke’s 2023 Spring/Summer collection was filled with cool prints and had an androgynous feel. Cynthia Abila Last year during Cynthia Abila’s 2022 Spring/Summer at Lagos Fashion Week, the show opened with a model wearing a mask with a kaleidoscopic gown inspired by traditional Nigerian masquerades. Opening her 2023 Spring/Summer, a masked model walked down the runway, what followed next was a familiar colourful silhouette- the multi-coloured gown but now re-made. The remaining piece was radiant as expected. Awa Meite Awa Meite is a Malian sustainable brand. On Day 4, the brand showcased an array of beautiful pieces that celebrated Malian rich culture. Ugo Monye   A regular in the Lagos Fashion Week schedule, Ugo Monye collections stand out with each outdoing the next and the new collection was no different - excellently tailored, carefully thought out and impeccably delivered.  Odio Mimonet To close out, light fabrics transformed into striking silhouettes dominated Odio Mimonet’s 2023 Spring/Summer collection titled “One With Nature” for womenswear.    Day 5 On Day 5 of Lagos Fashion Week, private and exclusive offsite shows took place at different locations. Lagos Space Programme, Andrea Iyamah, Banke Kuku, and Imad Eduso had offsite presentations which wrapped up the fashion season officially.
