GlaxoSmithKline chief Sir Andrew Witty to Retie

GlaxoSmithKline chief executive Sir Andrew Witty is to retire from the pharmaceutical giant next year.

 

Sir Andrew has been with GSK for 32 years, having started as a management trainee.

He said: "By next year, I will have been CEO for nearly 10 years and I believe this will be the right time for a new leader to take over."

Santiago T. Roberts is fast becoming a household name in this part of the world and with the name comes a number of ideas. So, who exactly is Santiago T. Roberts?

I will say Santiago is an obsessively creative genius always looking for how to create the next spark. Somehow, I really can’t say when it started but I have got this huge ‘character flaw’ which is always trying to find that little detail that others tend to miss to add that little spark to creating an explosion; by explosion I mean something so small but creatively mountainous.

GTBank Rises in the League of the World’s Biggest Banking Brands

Foremost African financial institution, Guaranty Trust Bank plc, has been listed among the top 500 global banking brands in a study conducted by Brand Finance, one of the world’s leading brand valuation consultancy.

 

In the report, which is to be published in the February edition of the Banker, GTbank rises to 389^th in the league table of the world’s biggest banks, 28 places from last year’s 417^th position. It is one of only four Nigerian banks and tops in the country as the bank with the highest year-on-year brand value increase; from $213 million in 2015 to $243 million in 2016.

MTN CEO Sifiso Dabengwa resigns in wake of $5.2bn Nigerian fine

Beleaguered cellphone giant MTN’s CEO, Sifiso Dabengwa, has resigned with immediate effect, the company said on Monday.

 
MTN Nigeria was recently fined $5.2bn by the Nigerian Communications Commission for failing to deactivate 5.1-million unregistered SIM cards on its network.

Steel chief warns of industry ‘bloodbath’

The CEO of ArcelorMittal SA, Paul O’Flaherty, has warned of a "bloodbath year", indicating that anti-dumping duties of as much as 30%-60% on some Chinese steel products could be needed to sustain the cash-strapped steel maker’s operations.

SA’s largest steel maker said it would seek to raise R4bn-R4.5bn by way of a rights issue underwritten by Luxembourg-based shareholder ArcelorMittal and that it was in talks with government on measures to ensure the longer-term viability of SA’s steel industry.

A stunning Vanessa Williams upstaged a bevy of Miss America beauties Sunday, earning an apology from the pageant that dissed her more than 30 years ago after a nude photo flap.

Williams, a pageant judge, helped crown a new Miss America -- Miss Georgia, Betty Cantrell -- but the winner was anti-climactic after Williams stole the show with a striking gown, a stirring song and a standing ovation from the Atlantic City crowd.
