Celestial Show Set for New Year's Eve

Celestial Show Set for New Year's Eve A delightful display of planets and the moon will occur on New Year's Eve for anyone wishing to step outside and look up just after sunset.Venus, brighter than all other planets and stars, will dangle just below the thin crescent moon in the southwestern sky. It'll be visible -- impossible to miss, in fact -- just as the sun goes down, assuming skies are cloud-free.

Soon thereafter, Mercury and Jupiter will show up hugging the south-southwestern horizon (just above where the sun went down) and extremely close to each other. Jupiter is very bright and easy to spot; Mercury is faint and harder to see, but it'll be apparent by its location just to the left of Jupiter.
Jupiter and Mercury will set less than an hour after the sun, so timing your viewing just after sunset is crucial. You'll also need a location with a clear view of the western horizon, unobstructed by buildings, trees or mountains.
All the planets, along with the moon and sun, traverse an arc across our sky called the ecliptic, which corresponds to the plane in space that they all roughly share. For this reason, you could draw an imaginary line from the general location of Venus and the moon, down through the other two planets, and the line would point to where the sun went down. This line could also initially help you find Jupiter and Mercury.

Weather permitting, you can get a preview of the sky show on Tuesday, Dec. 30. On this evening, the planets will be in nearly the same place they'll be on Dec. 31, but the moon will be midway between Venus and the Mercury-Jupiter pairing. One last trick: Venus is so bright you can see it during daylight if you know where to look. Given Venus' proximity to the moon on New Year's Eve, this would be an excellent moment -- just before sunset -- to use the moon to help you find Venus and gain bragging rights for being one of the few people to be able to claim seeing more than one planet during the daytime (Earth being the other one).

Pete Edochie, is a Nigerian Actor

Pete Edochie, is a Nigerian actor. A devout Catholic, he is considered one of Africa’s most talented actors, by both Movie Awards and Movie Magic’s Africa Magic Cable network. Although a seasoned administrator and broadcaster, he came into prominence in the 1980s when he played the lead role of Okonkwo in an NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s all time best selling novel, Things Fall Apart. Edochie descends from the Igbo people in Nigeria. He has two sons that take to his acting traits; Linc and Yul Edochie. At 60, Pete Edochie will let you know his life has more or less just begun. Which is why he is ready to take on not just the government, but also the industry where he has earned a living as far back as anyone can remember. He desires to make a change for the better. It should be an easy task for this multiple award winner and excellent actor. He told Correspondent Temitope Ojo his plans and take on sundry issues. You turned 60 recently, how does it feel?Well, I haven’t celebrated it yet. I merely observed that I have turned 60. Every single day you spend on earth brings you nearer to your grave. When I clocked 60, I thanked God; then I remembered what Sam Amuka said that what he used to do in a moment in the past now takes him all day.

Marie Antoinette (Daughter of Francis)

Marie Antoinette was born in Austria, a daughter of Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor, and Austrian Empress Maria Theresa. She was born on the same day as the famous earthquake of Lisbon. As with most royal daughters, Marie Antoinette was promised in marriage in order build a diplomatic alliance between her birth family and the family of her husband. Marie Antoinette married the French dauphin, Louis, grandson of Louis XV of France, in 1770.

He ascended the throne in 1774 as Louis XVI.Marie Antoinette was welcomed in France at first. Her frivolity contrasted with the withdrawn personality of her husband. After her mother died in 1780, she became more extravagant and this led to growing resentment. The French were suspicious of her ties to Austria and her influence on the King in attempting to foster policies friendly to Austria.Marie Antoinette, formerly welcomed, now was vilified for her spending habits and opposition to reforms.
The 1785-86 Affair of the Diamond Necklace, a scandal in which she was accused of having an affair with a cardinal in order to obtain a costly diamond necklace, further discredited her and reflected on the monarchy. After an initial slow start at the expected role of childbearer -- her husband apparently had to be coached in his role in this -- Marie Antoinette gave birth to her first child, a daughter, in 1778, and sons in 1781 and 1785. By most accounts she was a devoted mother.

Marie Antoinette and the French Revolution: After the Bastille was stormed on July 14, 1789, the queen urged the king to resist the Assembly's reforms, making her even more unpopular, and leading to the attribution to her of the remark, "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche!" -- "Let them eat cake!" In October, 1789, the royal couple were forced to move to Paris.Reportedly planned by Marie Antoinette, the escape of the royal couple from Paris was stopped at Varennes on October 21, 1791. Imprisoned with the king, Marie Antoinette continued to plot.

She hoped for foreign intervention to end the revolution and free the royal family. She urged her brother, the Holy Roman Emperor Leopold II, to intervene, and supported a declaration of war against Austria in April, 1792, which she hoped would result in the defeat of France.

Her unpopularity helped lead to the overthrow of the monarchy when Parisiennes stormed the Tuileries palace on Aug. 10, 1792, followed by the establishment of the First French Republic in September. The family was imprisoned in the Temple on August 13, 1792, and moved to the Conciergie on Autust 1, 1793. There were several attempts to escape, but all failed.

'Mama G' emerges Face of Nollywood 2008

After several months of wrangling with the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria Mr. Ejike Asiegbu over copyright ownership of the Face of Nollywood, the duo of Byran Chike and Ifeanyi Ipoenyi finally had the last laugh as their company Total Televison finally put together a well attended event in the nation’s capital city of Abuja. The AGN president who felt short changed by the organisers had threatened to stop the event from holding, but last Saturday he was no where near the Abuja venue of the awards. The event which held at the prestigious and new Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture in Abuja had all the trappings of a glamourous event. And at the end of the day, Madam Patience Ozokwor a.k.a Mama G beat her closest rivals, Osita Ike and Bukky Wright to emerge the maiden Face of Nollywood.

Aside the two aforementioned, Madam Ozokwor on her march to victory also thrashed such big names as Kanayo O. Kanayo, Stella Damasus, Ramsey Nouah, Genevieve Nnaji, Saheed Balogun, Richard Mofe Damijo and Ini Edo.Other awards winners include Best Distributor of the year which went to OJ Production, Best Cinematographer, captured by Mohammed Abdullahi, Best Director, won by Lancelot Imaseun-Oduwa, Best Producer won by Kingsley Okereke, Best screen writer won by Kalid Musa and Soap Opera of the year that went to Family Ties. (See full list of winners below)Although some of the awardees especially non- Nollywood practitioners were not on hand to receive their awards (they were represented), it didn’t in any way dampen the tempo of the night as everyone present had a word or two of commendations for the organisers for a work well done. And some the non Nollywood practitioners who got awards were the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Idris Ibrahim, Alhaji Abubakar Babaje who received the Most Outstanding Personality award and Dr. Nnanna Uzor Kalu and Don Pedro Ojeme who got the Most Friendly Legislator of the year and Biz Excellence award. An elated Mrs Patience Ozokwor who went on her knees moment after receiving her awards was grateful to her fans for their support especially for voting her as the Face of Nollywood.

While thanking God for her breakthrough, Mrs Ozokwor dedicated the awards to her late husband and children. Addressing the crowd, the organisers said that Face of Nollywood initiative is poised to bring about improvement, recognition and rewarding hard work in the industry. In his speech the co-organiser of the event Mr. Chike Bryan was all gratitude to all those well meaning Nigerians who contributed in no small measure to make the event a successful one. He also promised to have a more glowing event next year so as to take Nollywood to greater heights.

PASUMA SHINES AS 150K RECORDING DEAL ALMOST MARRED FUJI NITE

Pasuma AGAIN
Pasuma Alabi Wonder proved himself to be the hottest fuji musician among his contemporaries when he not only packed the Options 24/Seven venue of Hip Hop Fuji Nite full, but also dazzled nightcrawlers with his four hours non-stop performance.Arabambi (II) as he’s now called, arrived the venue as early as 10.00 p.m. and brooking no nonsense, tongue-lashed his band members for not arriving on time.

“It’s a new direction we’re moving at, Pasuma is now a brand and discipline is now our watchword,” Matt Ididowo said. That new direction also includes mediating between warring fuji musicians and offering advice to marketers, promoters and FUMAN leaders. Paso not only thanked his ardent fans for their support and followership, he was especially appreciative of the massive turn-out he had enjoyed in three consecutive shows in the Oluyole city.“We were at the Gate Carnival, two days later at the Bere-Oje Fest and now, FIBAN/Options Nite and the crowd has been impressive. “It shows how much we are loved.

I can assure you that we will not relent in our efforts to give you good music,” Pasuma said.Expressing disgust with bootleggers who are fond of eating off the sweat of musicians, the Fuji Prince promised to deal with any marketer caught affixing his unauthorised pictures on videos that he hasn’t appeared in. “It has been noticed that some marketers put my pictures, superimposed with a crown on my head, with beads on my neck, on video covers just to deceive my fans, I only need to catch such to vent my anger.“We work ourselves stiff, it’s only right that we are paid what’s due us. Piracy should be dealt with so that artistes can survive,” the Glo Ambassador said. A twist was however added to the event when RMT scooped that one of the organisers had sold out the recording deal of the Nite for a paltry N150,000.

When an official of the club learned about the under-hand deal, he was livid and threatened to disrupt the show but for quick intervention. “The man must be hungry to have sold the right for 150K. For God’s sake, we are in this show together, how could he have done that without telling me?” he threatened. “I am going to stop the show, I don’t care whatever happens. He must be a fool,” he added.Although, the man in question heaped praises on the management of Options, another described the praises as “patronising.” In fact, the enraged official cancelled the press briefing that should have been attended by a top officer of a telecom company.

Comedians Shairman and Aderupoko also cracked few jokes to get the stiff audience in the mode for the main event, but the two artistes that succeeded in doing so were David Ayinde (D1), whose rendition of several K1’s songs softened the stiff crowd until Wale Waves finally broke loose the spirit of lethargy. His version of Prince Adekunle’s “Why Do Me So”, “Ibadan,” which video he’s about to complete, “Alafia” and “Baby Me,” lulled the fans out of trance.

Star Mega Concert at Abuja

Day Nas, Nelly, PSquare, Timaya set Abuja on fire Nas and Nelly
Faze
9ice

Jimmy (DJ)

Olu Maintain

2Face

Just like the previous editions of the show, the Star Mega Jam that held penultimate Friday and following Saturday in Lagos and Abuja respectively, had lived up to the billing of a mega concert.Numerous fans of international superstars, Nelly and Nas that thronged the Polo Club in Lagos and Old Parade Ground in Abuja had a swell time as both artistes including local acts like Timaya, Face, Olu Maintain, Diamonds, PSquare, 9ice and others gave a good account of themselves.Nelly and Nas had earlier assured their fans in Nigeria that this year’s Star Mega Jam may well be the best put forward by Star, the sponsoring brand since the concert was launched in 2000. And indeed, it was, going by the crowd that turned up in Lagos. Abuja too was not left out in the crowd contest. As late as 2a.m, music fans were still obtaining tickets and trooping into the Old Parade Ground.Diamonds, winners of 2007 Star Quest talent hunt, had opened the show in Abuja, singing their hearts out to the admiration of the audience.

They were followed by Mr Yahooze, Olu Maintain and then the duo of KC Presh whose songs like Shokori Bobo, Sengemenge, Shake it, Hold it sent the audience to the dancing floor. Faze had the crowd literally eating from his palms. He sang his popular songs like Originality, Tattoo Girls, Yawa Eh and Play Ball among others, and by the time he quit the stage for Nas, the fans were yelling for more.Nas was particularly thrilled that he was face to face with a very large crowd of his fans in Nigeria. This was the second time he would be in the country but the first time he would be performing to such a huge audience.

He had boasted thus: “Nothing do me, I will be in Nigeria.” The artiste who has sold tens of millions of albums worldwide and endeared himself to fans across the globe sang tracks from his old and recent albums including IIImatic, It Was Written, I Am, Nastradamus, Stillmatic, Hip Hop Is Dead and Street Disciples among others. But then Nelly picked the tempo up from where Nas stopped and set the whole place on fire.

The highpoint of his performance was when he invited on stage two girls from the audience and dared them to sing for him. It was like asking for too much as one of the girls blew Nelly’s heart out with 2Face’s popular tune, Africa Queen.

But being one that would not allow a good contest pass him by, Nelly rose to the occasion, toasting the girl with a popular ballad. After Nelly came PSquare who turned the roof upside down with You Are The Finest, Do Me and Ifunnaya. Performing on the same stage with superstars like Nelly and Nas, the twins showed the stuff they were made of. In fact, both Peter and Paul showed that winning virtually all the music awards this year is not for nothing.

However, Balyesa born Timaya drew the curtain on the show with a good performance. But kudos to top comedian Gbenga Adeyinka for cracking the ribs of the audience with good, hilarious jokes. The Star Mega Jam has so far featured top international artistes like Awilo Longomba, Shaggy “Bombastic”, Usher Raymond, Kofi Olomide, 50 Cents, Jah Rule, Kelvin Little, Akon, L.L Cool J, Kanye West and T-Pain.

YAK HAPPY WITH SURGERY

Nigeria striker Yakubu Ayegbeni had successful surgery to repair his torn Achilles tendon and told KickOffNigeria.com that his recuperation process is coming along nicely.

“I have done the surgery, everything is fine and I am recovering well,” the Everton striker said. Yakubu tore his Achilles tendon in the Toffees 1-0 win at Tottenham last month and will be missing not only for the rest of the season, but crucially, for Nigeria’s World Cup qualification games. “I am going to miss three games for Nigeria, which is not good. I always want to help my country and it is important for us to qualify for the World Cup. “But I have confidence in the boys that they will do a good job when the time comes and I will try to be there to cheer for them.”

In the Yak’s absence, Everton travelled to Manchester and came away with a hard fought victory over City, a result that left the forward in good spirits. “That was a fantastic effort by the boys. They did very well and I am proud of them. It is not easy to go there and win especially when you have so many injuries in the team.”

Tinubu, Fashola, KI, others for Eko Nite Fun Splash

K1 De Ultimate

As part of the activities lined up for the fun loving people of Lagos State this yuletide season, a high profile event tagged: Eko Nite Fun Splash, has been fixed for Friday, December 26, (Boxing Day).

The high-octane groove scheduled to hold at the prestigious Martinos, behind the popular M.K.O Abiola Gardens, Ikeja, is expected to attract dignitaries from both the private and public sectors.According to Mr. Olutimehin Olusegun Samson, the honcho of Jim Timmy Productions, organizers of the event, which is already being hailed by many, it became necessary to hold a show like Eko Nite Fun Splash, because after working from the beginning of the year to the last days of the year, it is imperative that Lagosians have a forum where they would come together and look back at the successes or otherwise of the past months, and plot on how to face the future, in a more relaxed atmosphere.Already, K1, De Ultimate, has been contracted to headline the show.

He would be supported by other younger music acts. It won’t be an all night of music and fun, as the immediate past governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife Oluremi, would be honoured as Grand Patron of Eko Nite Fun Splash, while the current governor Babatunde Fashola and wife, Abimbola, would also receive similar honours too. Also, other illustrious sons and daughters of Lagos as well as few outstanding non-Lagosians would be given special recognition awards at the forthcoming evening of fun and relaxation.

AT OJUDE OBA FIESTA, GLO PAINTS IJEBU GREEN

Again, December 9 this year would remain a day to remember for the Ijebu all over the world. It was the day millions of Ijebu sons and daughters as well as fun seekers from all over the world trooped to Ijebu Ode for this year’s Ojude Oba festival. For the fourth year running, Globacom, Africa’s fastest-growing telecommunications giants, added glamour and colour to the event which it has been sponsoring since 2004.The whole of Ijebu Ode, the capital of the Ijebu nation, was aglow in celebration of an event that has become a unifying factor for all Ijebu sons and daughters at home and in the Diaspora. This year, like other times, the town was excitingly attired in the company’s trademark lemon green colour as branded parasols, kiosks, and event-specific banners dotted all the nooks and crannies of the ancient town. Even a first time visitor to the town needed little explanation to understand that this was one festival which had become synonymous with Globacom.

The company’s sponsorship of the event has, in the minds of many, raised it to an enviable tourists’ delight which attracts people from all walks of life and from other parts of the country. Since 2004, Globacom has been picking Ojude Oba bills as the festival’s main sponsor. It has also become an avenue for the company to empower indigent indigenes of Ijebuland by establishing well-equipped commercial telephone call centres for them as well as bringing the products and services of the company closer to the grassroots. For over a century, Ojude Oba has been celebrated annually on the third day of Eid el Kabir.

Now, it is celebrated by Muslims and Christians of Ijebu origin. The festival’s inception dates back to the early 1900s when the first set of Muslim converts thought it fit to visit the then Awujale to express gratitude to him for giving them a free rein in the practice of their new found faith. They also took the opportunity to pray for the monarch’s long life as well as the prosperity of the town. This year, the tradition remains unchanged. The monarch played host to indigenes of the town who prayed for continued peace in Ijebuland as well the kingdom’s development. After the prayers came the parade of the regberegbes, a unique and age-old institution established to unite the society into age groups, male and female for the purpose of bringing development and progress to the community.

There are about 36 groups with an average of, at least, 50 members per group. Each group wore the latest in parading and dancing in unison to the tunes of traditional music at the background, to pay homage to the king. The entire palace was enveloped in glitz and glamour of phenomenal beauty. There was also a parade of the descendants of the war heroes who gained notable victories for the Ijebu nation during the intra-ethnic Yoruba wars in the pre-colonial days. Each year, the festival avails these classes of people the opportunity to simulate their battle strength and displays. For Globacom, Ojude Oba allows customers to purchase starter packs comprising Nokia handset and Classic SIM at heavily discounte prices.

Products and services were also made available to encourage purchase by intending subscribers.Officials of the network equally attended to network-related queries, while devices such as handsets and laptops were provided for value-added services to enable access to its wide variety of value-added services. In order to satisfy one of its visions of empowering Nigerians, business centre packages were given to indigent citizens of Ijebuland in the bid to ensure they became self-reliant. At the fun-filled fiesta, Globacom staged a rendezvous where Fuji crooner, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, dazzled the crowd with his brand of fuji music. He was supported by a renowned radio presenter cum-comedian, Baba Gboin. DJ Top was on the turntable. There were many gift items and several subscribers who thronged the rendezvous went home with gifts of branded items. The prizes were won by subscribers who competed in dance and mime of popular tunes among other competitions. The rendezvous, according to Globacom’s Head of Business Solutions, Mr. Folu Aderibigbe, was to further identify with the people, using Ojude Oba as a platform.

“The entertainment provided at the rendezvous gave vent to the company’s drive towards ensuring that everyone on the network enjoys tremendously on and off the network,” he stated. Oba Awujale lauded Globacom’s sponsorship of the festival, saying “the company’s sponsorship of the event has raised it to an enviable tourists’ delight which attracts people from all walks of life and from other parts of the country.”

Globacom’s chairman, Otunba Mike Adenuga, in a speech at the festival, said his company had shown interest in the festival because its socio-cultural value complementsGlobacom’s vision to celebrate the unique accomplishments of Nigeria as a nation. “We are confident that our collaboration will add colour to the festival,” said the highly intelligent industrialist.

AKWA IBOM AND HER CULTURE

Culture is defined as the total way of life of a people in a particular society.
Culture is defined as the total way of life of a people in a particular society. This is to say that there is no human society without its own culture. But what is important is that some societies are keen in their culture than others. Some societies due to ignorance or carelessness allow their culture to die. These societies allow some aspects of their culture to disappear by too much appreciating and becoming over-dependent on other people's culture.

For the sake of this writing, there is need to go further to say that culture include the kind of food we eat, the way we dress, talk, dance, the kind of songs we sing, the architectural design of the house we live and so on. However, talking about a country like China, this country stands tall among the comity of nations when talking about the ability of her citizens to keep, promote and appreciate their culture anywhere they are. The Chinese are known to have a distinctive way of eating. They eat with stick from time immemorial till date. Anywhere they are, their architectural design remains perfectly outstanding. Their popular Chinese 'Karat' till today is one which is very famous even at international competitions like the Olympics.

Another culture worthy of recommendation is the famous English culture which as a result of how the owners appreciate and value it has made it almost a force trying to destroy or swallow other cultures in the world. The English have spread their culture as a religion to every nook and cranny of the world. We, like other consumers, have so accepted this culture to the detriment of our own. Now, let's look at the dressing pattern of an English man. He mostly goes in suit or shirt and a pair of trousers with a tie which is what most people the world over are using intensively today. In fact, in Nigeria, especially in Akwa Ibom State, we tend to make this dressing pattern an official one.

In Nigeria, there are people who are very conscious and appreciative of their culture by trying to maintain those valuable life patterns their forefathers handed down to them. This could be seen in their way of still eating those foods which are their traditional foods, they still dress the way their forefathers dressed to maintain their uniqueness. They still sing those traditional songs and maintain their games. It is worthy to note the Igbos are doing very well in maintaining good aspects of their culture. They still dress in their traditional attire of velvet chieftaincy, loincloth and red round cap and other accessories to complement. While their women normally tie loincloth, at their chest complementing it with beads and coloured clay to beautify the body. Their songs could easily be recognized through the use of popular Igbo traditional flute, while their food, like African salad, bitter leaf soup and akpu remain famous among them anywhere they are.

The most important fanciful thing one can appreciate among the Igbos is the way and manner they speak their language. It is very simple to identify the Igbos whenever they are up to two in umber. This is so because they always speak their language whenever they are. No wonder they dominate the Nigerian film industry because you will always notice a good display of their culture by dressing, singing and talking. In fact, this is how people should be appreciating their culture.

The Yoruba culture is another culture in Nigeria that worth recommendation. The language is highly spoken and naming of their children is very appreciative. They have love for their traditional names. Even among the Igbos, even if they may have an English name, would also have a native name. Take for example, an Igbo girl is named Glory but her real name is Ngozi. But the Yorubas and Hausas are the best in this aspect. It is worthy of note that the Yorubas hardly give their children English names even if they were born outside the country. In fact, I give kudos to the Hausa because no Hausa man would name his children English names, like Elton, White, Williams etc., They either give their children religious or traditional names no matter how educated and exposed they might be. Meanwhile, a name is seen as the greatest identity of an individual which to a very great extent should be reflected on the person's personality.

But in Akwa Ibom State, we have over the years allowed other people's culture to penetrate our subconsciousness to the extent that we start accepting them and at the same time forget our own. We seem to forget the popular saying which says, "If you don't say I am, nobody will say you are: We have not seen the need to speak our language again. Most of us are now feeling shy to speak our own native language outside our homes. Matters are made worse among the young nursery school children. Most of them cannot call some things in our local dialect nor can they count from one to twenty in our language. Our local food like the famous Asa Iwa Edes: Ibokpot', Ekpang Iwa, Edita Iwa and many other traditional delicacies can no more be prepared by our sons and daughters.

On day, a curios school child asked her aunt to tell her the traditional Akwa Ibom wear. It was shocking to know that the big lady did not know, but told the anxious child that the women dress with wrapper and buba which is rather a traditional dress for Yoruba women. Nevertheless, the spirit in which the present commissioner for culture and tourism, Lady Valerie Ebe, begins is particularly appreciated. The hosting of Akwa culture fair by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism was a kind of cultural re-awakening. The people were once again reminded of the need to always keep their culture in top form, but should at the same time do away with such negative aspects, like female circumcision and the use of dangerous weapons like machetes and guns to attack innocent members of the public by masquerades. Rather, they should be played in a manner that promotes peace and understanding while abiding by the laws of the state.
It is high time we started becoming proud of our language. Our language should be made a compulsory subject in schools up to senior secondary school level because a society that cannot promote and pass valuable aspects of its culture to future generations, is in a serious trouble. Therefore, we must strengthen our language and make it acceptable even to others.
One day as I was doing my National Youth Service in Kogi State, I happened to meet one Mr Udofia at the orientation camp. I was glad to know that the NYSC official was from Akwa Ibom because of his name tag. But the greatest shock of my life came when I introduced myself in Ibibio language, of course I was not alone but with two other people all from Akwa Ibom. It was a dramatic scene when we talked to the official in Ibibio, he was busy answering us in English. We must start being proud of our language and be happy to use it anywhere. Our children should be named the traditional names like Eno, Imaobong, Mfon, Itoro, Idongesit, Mkpouto, Emediong, Uwakmfon, Utibeima, Ubok-Utom-Abasi ands many other lovely names. Our indigenous food should be cooked and eaten even in the restaurants and hotels, such as ekpang nkukwo, edikang ikong, asa iwa, efere ibo kpot, Otong, foo foo and many others. Our traditional palm wine should be promoted and accorded its rightful position. Afterall, it is known to be of higher value than the sugary imported drinks that we buy daily. Craft work in Ikot Ekpene should be highly promoted and sold in every hotel in the state and in Akwa Ibom liaison offices at Lagos and Abuja to enable our guests to purchase them as this would go a long way to promote both our culture and the economic standards of the country.

The government should as a matter of policy, declare at least one day in a week as a cultural day. These days, Akwa Ibom person should be made to wear traditional attire to office. This way, we will see ourselves promoting our much valuable cultural heritage to the next level. It is there and then that others will start seeing things good in us and therefore see the beauty to emulate us. Government officials and public office holders should use their positions to used for cultural promotion in the state. It is disheartening the way and manner our public figures always pose in suit from Monday to Monday and this is a serious threat to the survival of our native cultural values because this class of people are seen as figures and representatives of the people. So people tend to copy most of what they do.

Therefore, we should all see our cultural decadence as a collective concern and therefore wake up to revamp it if we must leave good aspects of our cultural heritage to the next generation.
