It rained ice in Abeokuta
Residents of Abeokuta, the Ogun state
capital were thrown into panic on Thursday when it started raining ice
instead of water. The unusual rainfall is known as a hail storm.
The rain/hail accompanied by a slight wind, started around 5.42pm and lasted for about 27 minutes.
Residents who were outside said they
were being hit by gravel-sized ice blocks which caused them to scamper
into any available shelter. Those inside their homes claim it felt as
though stones were being thrown on their ceilings while the hail lasted.
Also, motorists were frightened with the occurrence as most of them parked their vehicles by roadsides and ran to 'safety'.
Some wind shields were reportedly broken by the ice blocks at Ake, Abeokuta.
Hail as described by Wikipedia is a form
of precipitation that falls from the sky as pellets of ice. The pellets
can vary in size; from being as small as a pea to being as large as
grapefruits.
The hail storm was also experienced in these parts of the city; Panseke, MKO Abiola Stadium and Kuto.
A witness related his experience on the
social media platform saying,"I'm presently driving somewhere around
kuto, in Abeokuta and there's massive hail storm here. It's so strong;
it's got people leaving their cars for shelter.
To give you an idea. it's like having
gravel poured on the roof of your vehicle from a four storey building.
This is the second time I'm witnessing this anomaly. The first being
around 1981 In Festac as a kid.Is this phenomenon normal,or a sign of
the end time as predicted.2012"
