Claudia Roth, The Germany's federal culture commissioner, has travelled to the southern Ukrainian port city of Odessa to hold talks with Ukrainian Culture Minister Mykola Tochytskyi, her office announced on Monday.
"The legendary cultural metropolis of Odessa shows how incredibly important their own culture is to Ukrainians as an anchor during this criminal war of attrition with ceaseless Russian attacks," Roth said in a statement.
Roth is to
express continuing German support to Tochytskyi, who took office at the beginning of September.Talks are also planned with Odessa's regional governor, Oleh Kiper, and with cultural representatives.
Roth travelled to Ukraine via neighbouring Moldova, where she held talks with Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan and civil society representatives.
The visit is Roth's second to Odessa since the Russian invasion in February 2022.
