Gauteng legislature speaker, Ntombi Mekgwe, says
they will refer the conduct of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members to
the legislature's Integrity Committee.
EFF members were forcefully removed from the house by the police for not having dressed appropriately and for being in contravention of the standing rules of the house.
Chaos erupted and a scuffle ensued between police and EFF members. Mekgwe says members need to adhere to the rules of the house.
She says: “Tomorrow (Wednesday) because we have a sitting, if they come dressed appropriately they will be allowed there is no question about it. But if they misbehave, we can make a different ruling. I watched them giving a hot clap to one of the security officers. A young woman of the legislature who was trying to intervene was beaten by members of the EFF.”
Proceedings at the debate on Gauteng Premier David Makhura's State of the Province Address were adjourned for the second time.
